McCordRm
Ok, I have an ARM device at a remote location. The device is hooked up to a wireless router so that I can upload information if I'm on-site. What I need to be able to do is access it from home. I could, I guess, hook up a Cell phone to it so that I can call in from anywhere. But I'm wondering if there's a better way, better equipment, to be able to do this.
+BudMan MVC Posted June 7, 2012 MVC Share Posted June 7, 2012 What? So when your there how do you upload stuff to? Special client, http, ftp, sftp, smb/cifs (windows file share).. What exactly is an ARM device? Is that site where you connect to it while your there have internet connection? Then if so just make the protocol you use to upload files to it when your there available to the public internet, be with a simple port forward on the internet router there, or vpn into that network, etc.
McCordRm
It's an ARM-based sign. Inside is a wireless router and the Control Board. If I'm on-site, I just connect to the router through its wireless capability with a laptop and upload images to the control board through it, which then get displayed on the sign. It's in a very remote area where there is absolutely no internet connectivity. Thus, the need to discover some other way to connect and upload images to it remotely. +BudMan MVC Posted June 8, 2012 MVC Share Posted June 8, 2012 "and upload images to the control board through it, which then get displayed on the sign." Again HOW do you upload them?? Do you have a special client? FTP, what? There is always internet available - just because you don't have it does not mean its not available. As you already stated use cell.. But not really a phone, just get a 3g/4g router and put in your sim and away you go. example http://www.netgear.c...bile-broadband/ Or yeah you can always setup a modem and dial into, or get SAT internet - that is always available -- can you see the sky ;)
McCordRm
Hmmm... the HOW is done through a program designed to upload the image to the sign (control board in the sign). Honestly, I couldn't tell you if it's FTP or whatnot. Some website-creating software will auto upload to your website through FTP, so I understand what you're asking... but I don't know the protocol this uses. I just connect to the router with the laptop though the wireless connection and tell the program to send the file. As for internet... by availability, I mean (obviously) there is no local internet there. Sure, I could setup an antenna and pay to have SAT access, but that's pretty expensive for just needing to send images to a sign. I'll look into the 3G/4G router idea. I didn't even know they made those.
