RATiO
Is 4GB RAM enough for a remote access and file server? It will be used for storage of backups and running remote apps.

daniel_rh
How many clients are going to get access to this remote server, and what kind of applications are going to run the users? do they use a lot of resources? By remote access you're saying that users are going to get access to the server by using a remote desktop app of the server on client's computer or just file sharing, where users run applications through the file system of the server. Daedroth
If you're going to use it as a terminal server like thing, then no, it isn't. Especially if someone kicks up a flash animation.

sc302 Veteran Posted June 22, 2012 Veteran Share Posted June 22, 2012 well that is a little bit more info. :( based on this info you could get away with a gig of memory...providing the app was made in 1999. but perhaps the system requirements for the app is really small and only requires a few k of memory to run. Let me give you the answer to everything so that you can go on....42... Let me be more specific so that you could possibly help us out or maybe even yourself. 24mb per user is required to run a ts session. how many mb per each time your applications are launched is needed? I don't know the answer to this I don't even know what applications you are trying to run, for all I know you are running some sort of quickbooks attendance software that uses 2gb of memory for each launch or some crap like that. I don't freaking know. Once you get your total multiply that by 3 then double that, that is how much overhead you will need above what the os doing what it is doing (av, other resident apps, etc)
