Awesome website (www.iisfaq.com). I got my problem solved - allow anonymous users to read only, and allow Admins/myself to write. The page for that is http://www.iisfaq.com/default.aspx?View=A293&P=14 . It's a little different for XP and WinServer 2003, but basically it's the same.

iomayho - could you tell me or give me the url for how to list virtual directories in the root? I searched but couldn't find it.

OSUKid7 - once you have the virtual directory set-up, all you need to do is to create a folder an empty folder in the ftp root directory and name it as you named the virtual directory...

i tried that, but adding users will add users to my windows XP as well, and i don't want that., all i want is for them to access the FTP that's all....

You have to add them to your system that way. If you want a seperate user list try a 3rd party FTP server

The ABSOLUTE best option for setting up your home PC as an FTP server with a HTTP interface can be found with WWW File Share Pro. This allows you have user accounts, restrict access to certain directories. It has an extremly simple interface, with logging and easy to set option, as well as a semi-customisable interface, and the ability to set any port. It will NOT work along side IIS, however so you will need to uninstall this. Hope it works ok for ya! :)

No...you could just stop the service and set it to disabled. Thats what I did when I was using BulletProof FTP earlier.
