Absent-minded motorist Markus Bettler got that sinking feeling when he forgot to put the handbrake on his car - and watched it roll to the bottom of a lake.

The 75-year-old driver had parked beside Lake Constance, Switzerland, during a visit to the beauty spot.

"As I slammed the door, I saw it start to creep forward but there was nothing I could do," he said later.

Now the dozy driver is set for a second soaking - when police charge him 2,000 GBP for using divers to winch the car out of the lake.
