ISP/speed availability checker for Norway?

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I'm going to be moving to Oslo in 2 weeks. Just wondering if someone knows a website I can check the speed we can get and who from? Our postcode is 0556.

I've tried navigating Tele2/Telenor/Get's websites, but I can't make head nor tail of the strange language :p

Any help appreciated!

Thanks :)

from my understanding this a good place to go.

http://www.npt.no/portal/page/portal/PG_NPT_NO_EN/PAG_NPT_EN_HOME?menuid=11797

And they have english version of their pages.

They are suppose to list of prices and features of all Norwegian broadband providers (along with other telecommunications service providers).

Thanks for the reply BudMan. I can't seem to find the pricing etc on there, but I was more looking for a website I can enter my postcode in to and it will tell me what speed we can get. I think I might have to call round all the ISP's. Don't really feel like doing that (costly) though.

Hi you can probably at least get 20Mbps (also probably 30Mbps). You can use this site: http://www.nextgentel.no/privat/bredband/bestilling/sjekk/, you need to add zip code, street address, house number and floor. I just tested Toftes gate which is in the same zip code, and a random house number, the site stated 30Mbps. Nextgentel is delivering over the telephone line.

Also, since its pretty close to the centre of Oslo I guess you can get almost anything. Get (http://www.get.no/produkter/superbredband) will probably be the cable provider, you can call them if you are looking for speeds over 30Mbps. Some parts of Oslo are also covered with fiber, but I'm not sure what's the status at Grunerlokka just yet.

Welcome to Norway ;-)

Hi Henriko

Thanks for your reply, it's very helpful! :D Our apartment is actually on Toftes gate. I filled in the address details and it came back that we can get 40Mbps. Our rent actually includes cable TV (I presume with Get) - am I right in thinking I can get any speed I wanted listed here? Or is the speed dependent on location?

Thanks!!

Yes I do think so, but I'm not entirely sure. They deliver over the cable TV wires, so I guess the potential bandwith there is quite high. The others, like Nextgentel, Telenor and Tele2 and so on delivers via. telephone wires and the speed is thus limited by the distance to nearest central. You can send them an e-mail and ask.
