Mippie
Hi Guys, I really need your help. Recently my complex-manager (of the room I rent) changed the internet settings. I've since reset my router, but my laptop can't access the internet. The strange thing though is that my Iphone picks up the wifi just fine. My laptop can connect to the wifi. But can't access actual sites. DNS fails and de default gateway is unreachable. Setup: Wallsocket -> RJ-45 -> Router -> Wifi Wifi-> IPhone: fine Wifi -> Laptop: fail IP settings on my Iphone: IP: 80.112.172.160 Netmask: 255.255.254.0 Default Gateway: 80.112.172.1 DNS: 212.54.35.25, 212.54.40.25 Search Domains: dvhpl.lan IP settings on laptop i've tried: The same as above. DHCP Variation on the above I've reset my router/modem multiple times, changed wifi settings on the router, updated drivers on the laptop... I always thought of myself as a reasonably capable network guy, but this problem has left me baffled. Any help would be greatly apreciated. c.grz
Make sure IE isn't set to use a proxy server.
cybertimber2008
Let the laptop connect to the wifi, and then post the results from the cmd prompt "ipconfig /all" for the wireless network adapter. It seems like the iPhone pulled a public IP which seems a little odd. Are you sure that isn't the carrier info? (I'm not sure how it's displayed). Hum
Your spell check isn't working either. :ninja:
+BudMan MVC Posted June 12, 2012 MVC Share Posted June 12, 2012 Look on your router - what does it say for wan IP? Did it get one? that IP on your phone is as stated already public - it did not get it from your router! Once your router is working to the internet, IE wired device to it - then we can can work on your wifi issues to that router.
Mippie
Thanks for the replies, and sorry for any typos. Typing on my phone is not ideal. The one in the topic title is really stupid though, any way to fix that? I just realised that those are indeed WANs. It must have something to do with de building I live in; multiple rooms in with a seperate public IP for everyone, but some central infrastructure anyway. (?). Ipconfig on my laptop gives me roughly the same results as the settings posted for my phone in OP, plus some IPv6 stuff. Anything of specific interest? How do I access my router when its in the bigger network? It's not the default gateway, that's inaccessible. (un-ping-able)
Hum
^ We forgive Dutchies for typos. If your router is only IPv4 and the building manager switched equipment to IPv6 that could be the problem. I guess you'd need to get another router.
+BudMan MVC Posted June 14, 2012 MVC Share Posted June 14, 2012 "Ipconfig on my laptop gives me roughly the same results as the settings posted for my phone in OP" Nonsense -- if your connected to the LAN of your router.. Its dhcp server would give you a Private IP 192.168.1.x for example If you getting a public IP, then either your not connected to a ROUTER, or its in bridge mode. What is the model number of this "router" you have? You sure its not just a switch? Its an actual wireless router - if you were connected to one if its lan ports and it was in router mode there would be NO way for you to get a public IP. Are you sure its not just 169.254.x.x Which would be a APIPA address when no dhcp server is working. Please provide your router make and model, and plug into one of its LAN ports with a computer and post your ipconfig /all
Quixote87
Try connecting to WAN port if available and set router for DHCP within a NORMAL private range?
trek
Your iPhone IP's TLD is coming up as a /8. It should not be such for a private IP. Your router isn't connected properly.
