Crossover Cable

Recommended Posts

I bought a 10ft crossover cable and would like to transfer large files between my laptop and PC. They both are running XP Pro and are already networked through a WIRELESS connection (thats too slow though). How can I do this without messing up my current network situation?

Thanks SO much for your input,

McGuire

plug the crossover cable in, disable the wireless nic (you might not have to, try it out) and transfer away. Once you are done remove the crossover cable.

Install NWLINK SPX/IPX/NetBIOS Compatible Network Protocal on both the laptop and the PC's network conections if needed, and then connect via network neighborhood...

i did this with my pcs and its simple... get the ip of both machines..

by doing a ipconfig

and then if one has a ftpserver on it transfer away

if not then your going to be working out a different way

like a shared folder or something

make sense?>

make sure both pc's have an IP assigned to it. Under the network connections for both nics make sure the 'file and printer sharing for ms networks' is installed. then right-click on my computer and map a drive to the other pc's ip address, like 192.168.0.2\c$ (you might have to supply a username and password if your account on your pc doesn't exisit on the other). Once the drive is mapped than you can transfer files.

You don't NEED those protocols, TCP/IP will do you just fine. But if you want to go to network properties and go to install protocol and choose the right one........

You dont need a routable protocol or nonroutable protocol, just something that will work, no biggie...

NWLINK SPX/IPX/NetBIOS Protocol is faster and you don't have to worry about configuring any IPs. Much easier...it is a protocal that you can simply add in your network connection properties....
