Is there a derp guide somewhere on how to install AD/Exchange/IIS from scra

Recommended Posts

I've been playing with AD/IIS/DNS/DHCP/Exchange at home trying to figure out how to get everything set up and working together. So far, I've managed to get DNS/DHCP and IIS working, as well as AD and Exchange somewhat, but I think I've messed something up, since I can't get Exchange active sync to work on my phone. I have gotten OWA to work, and can sucessfully send and receive from OWA remotely.

I've found a few guides (plus a question I asked here) that helped me get AD and Exchange configured, but I think I over complicated things, and am planning on starting over with AD and Exchange.

My current setup is as follows (appologize in advance if its confusing)

External Domain @ DNS @NameCheap.com

These resolve to my DynDNS link that always points to my home IP.

In AD, I configured my root domain (forest?) to be modelxposure.local, because when I originally set it to modelxposure.com, this prevented me from viewing my site (which I host in IIS myself).

To try and simplify things, instead of trying to go back and forth worrying about domain.local and domain.com, I want to try and re-install AD and Exchange with Modelxposure.com, and then set a DNS record internally to point www.modelxposure.com to the web server (192.168.0.3)

The only thing not really working right now is activesync/mail on my phone (I could probably use pop3 or imap through exchange, but I'd rather get exchange mail via activesync working first) Are there any guides for dummies to get this successfully working? I kinda would like autoconfigure to work so i can just enter "user@modelxposure.com" and a password and have my phone configure everything.

derp. nevermind, My phone was connecting to the guest lan at my work, which has no direct access to my house. Switched off wifi and it connected. I still would like to try and move the domain name so that i don't have domain.local and domain.com :(

Fail
