Windows Update Agent

Question

I had 2 of my computers come up with an upadte to the Windows Update Agent last night, but now, computer I'm on today, doesn't get it. All are Windows 7 Ultimate. The one's last night were 64bit while the other was 32bit. Computer I'm on now is 32bit.

All are most current of everything and are updated regularly, so why do 2 have it one night and nothing for other the next day?

Thanks you

Edit:

Just tried another 32bit computer and no such update for it either.

Anyone else get that update yesterday/last night?

Hello,

This is the update to prevent the attack that Win32/Flamer.A malware used on systems. More information about the update can be found in this blog article on Microsoft TechNet.

Thanks for that reply. I had seen that was what it was supposed to be for, but why only on 2 of 3 computers, so far? About to see if that update is needed on computer #4 right now.

Thanks again

Edit:

This computer, #4, got the update! This computer is a 64bit, Windows 7, Home Premium. So why wouldn't one out of 4 computers not get that update? I know the computer that didn't get it, is one big POS Dell, but still!!

Have 4 more computers to check still. We'll see what happens.

Just checked computer #5. No update for this one either.

Now what's really weird here is that the 2 computers that haven't gotten this update, are the 2 upstairs, which 1 is my wifes and the other is my kids. These are my 2 worst/oldest computers out of 8 even! Neither of them know ANYTHING about updating anything, so how is it that these 2 haven't needed this update?

Stupid computers!!

This update just came out and the last updates were the regular monthly ones a week and a half ago.

Just checked computer #6. No update for this one either!

Have 2 more computers to check, but not going to post any more after this as I guess this is just one of those strange things that computers like to do!! Obviously not that big of an issue, but sure seems strange.

Thanks for the replies.

Hello,

The update might be staggered in order to avoid overloading the update servers.

Hello,

I do not think every Windows-based computer checks for updates at the exact same time.

As should almost be obvious, I'm checking manually on all computers, which I ALWAYS do anyway, as automatic updates are always disabled on all my setups! I DESPISE almost anything that automatically updates.

Edit:

Just checked last 2 computers and neither of these got that update! Wasn't going to mention it anymore, but had to reply to last reply.

Even weirder now. Going back to my original post, that computer that didn't get this update that day, got it yesterday now!

As much as +goretsky's posts seemed to be illogical, maybe they are logical, which doesn't really make any sense, and neither does this sentence!!

As I said earleir, stupid computers!!

Hello,

Microsoft may be staggering the update not because of load issues, but so they can monitor the release for any issues that were not uncovered during testing.

Are these PC's connected to WSUS, or just windows update in general?

You can always check c:\windows\windowsupdate.log and see whats going on, but not sure if this populates if it's not connected to WSUS, I suspect it does though

This update is at least strange, got it today, first what take my attention is main WU window, I got there info only about last updates from 2012-06-13, in update history I got info about Update Agent from 2012-06-26, there was no clear info in WU about it, there was no system info about new update and finally, when I've restart my system, update start configure on Boot Screen, this start looks like some scum for me, very bad acting from MS, IMO ;)

Yep, strange. I now have gotten the update on all computers, finally!

I connect to Windows Update, including updates for Office and other products, so no, I don't think that's what you mean by WSUS.

I don't get anything weird acting as Semtex is describing. No c omputer restart is required although it does automatically restart the windows update window.

I'm confused - you turn OFF automatic updates however are worried that not all your computers have the latest updates? It would seem the solution is simple - turn ON automatic updates...

Yes,

I turn off auto updates to EVERYTHING. Hate that crap!!

No,

I am NOT worried the least little bit about my computers being up to date at all. I check for updates manually at least once a day on which ever computer I happen to get on.

My concern here was the fact that checking multiple computers on the same day this update came out, that not all of them got it. In fact, a couple of them didn't get this update until almost a week later! Nothing confusing what so ever about that, except for the why did that happen like that!
