+BudMan MVC Posted June 22, 2012 MVC Share Posted June 22, 2012 And are you running some 3rd party firmware on that router? I don't believe it supports vpn on the native firmware? Are you wanting to pass traffic through to some other vpn server - if so what vpn server? There are lots of different types of vpn, ssl based (openvpn) and windows SSTP, ipsec, pptp, etc. User_Deleted 1 Share
xendrome
First you want a VPN, then you want to forward ports for services? 2 Different things. I think you do really want a VPN, but keep in mind file access will be typically very slow over a standard consumer net connection. You can either run a VPN server on your system, or install DD-WRT or something if supported on your router that has a built in VPN server. User_Deleted
Thank you, but I was told I needed to somehow create a link from the router to the computer so I could use the vpn to link to it..
+BudMan MVC Posted June 23, 2012 MVC Share Posted June 23, 2012 Yeah -- notice the important/router section at the bottom Important: Configure your firewall to allow access to TCP port 1723 to allow incoming Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) connection for VPN. Router Configuration: Enable PPTP and Generic Route Encapsulation (GRE) on the Router. Depending on the type of router, you need to either enable PPTP or create a port forward to port 1723. If you?re router has an additional setting for PPTP or VPN, make sure it?s enabled. It?s usually called a ?pass-through? setting (i.e. PPTP pass-through or VPN pass-through) User_Deleted 1 Share
