drnibbles
Hi I have been working in the IT field now for 6 yrs in Europe and just moved here. I have all the papers that go with it such as MCSE, MCP, CIW, CIW CI and all the other crap. The thing in Europe and the US is that they don't care about the papers. They want to see what you can do and what you have worked with before. It's all about experience. I worked at Ericsson, Compaq and Dell and no one of them wanted to know that I was certified. I threw away so much money on paper it's not even funny. Then I moved here and the only thing they care about is if you have a diploma of IT or if you are certified. I landed a job as a Senior Technical Advisor (after telling the Interviewer off) at a bigger company in Brisbane together with a lot of young hotguns with "Diplomas" and "Certifiecations" but no experience at all. When it comes to the core of working under pressure most of them go crazy and make big mistakes or have no idea of solving a problem that is not a text book case. I have told my boss about this and he is starting to see the light. As we now have to hire more people we are looking for people that have 4 yrs or more experience, documented proof and not a paper "know how" boy.
