McCordRm
I'm trying to find a solution for connecting to a network in the middle of nowhere. There's a computer that stays on and I need to log into periodically. There is no hard phoneline, DLS, Cable, Fiber, etc. in the area. I don't want to deal with Satellite costs. Can anyone point me to a fairly inexpensive, always-on product? I've been looking at 3G routers.. but I'm not entirely sure how they work. Would my laptop have to be able to "call" the router? As I said... I'm completely clueless how it works. I just need to be able to setup my remote network to always be up and running so that I can access the computer anytime, from anywhere with my laptop. Thanks. sc302 Veteran Posted July 2, 2012 Veteran Share Posted July 2, 2012 Your first order of business is to establish some sort of always on solution. This always on solution needs to be available on the internet at any time you want to be able to remote in (this cannont be a device that is asleep when not in use). How are you going to guarantee 100% uptime? 3g router could work nicely provided it doesn't go to sleep when there is no outbound connectivity. McCordRm
Well, that's pretty much what I'm trying to do. Thus, the reason I'm asking advice on which device to get. I need a way to get the remote computer online all the time, without resorting to the insane cost of a Satellite uplink (antenna and so forth). It's kind of funny, Sprint's network runs on top of clear.net and clear.net operates the network, Ericsson wireless maintains it (contractual), and Sprint owns 51% of Clear.net if I remember correctly. Kelxin
If you ask someone if they have sprint in your area, are they going to know? Probably. If you ask someone if they have clear.net in their area, are they going to know? Probably going to say WTF is clear?
McCordRm
Ok, first... no, I would not have had any idea what the hell Clear was. heh That being said, I'm looking into their 4g Router. It looks like their coverage is in my area. It should work for me, and shouldn't be too terribly difficult to set up. If I can connect to the router from the internet, then I'll be able to access my computer.
