JHAres
for being cramped up just think about it this way if I have a farm that X amount of acres and I can raise X amount of chickens on that same farm and make so much $$$ and on the same amount of space I can raise 10 times as many chickens by cooping them up and make more $$$ then wouldnt I be a fool not to do so ? its the same for growing crops. If you feel that farmers should switch to more open pens thats fine just try explaining why they have to close the farm becouse some one changed the laws or stopped buying chicken. That farmers family was only trying to stay in buisness in a realy competitive market. People who cant face the fact that there food is raised in a non traditional maner probably should avoid meat and eggs and fish all together.Changing the way the things are raised here will only open up the market for importing our food from Mexico or Asia and trust me the FDA might not be the best there is but it beats the hell out of what ever they have watching over there food suply.... Here, in my country, in "the pampas", we still pick the natural raised animals for meat... Fast foods like McDonald's or Burger King are losing market here... (Wendy's already died)... they use the "moderns" methods... The local equivalent to FDA has proved their "foods" are causing metabolic diseases among their customers... But fortunately those "farms" are getting a really small portion of the market (and decreasing)... That's why we still have one of the bests (maybe the best) meat in the world (do some research to check this and our exportations), because we are still chosing the "old" way... less profits, but better quality... That's why, for example, the infamous "mad cow" disease does not (still) exists here... ;)

digistil
How do you suppose we treat 750 million chickens, who's sole purpose is to die and be eaten.I'm all for animal right, but at some point you have to draw a line and realize the humen race does need to survive. If you eat chicken, then dont post here saying its wrong to mass bread them. Because you are contributing to their death. I assume you believe that we cannot survive w/o KFC. Do you realize how ignorant/naive/ridiculous/moronic/just plain dumb that belief is? I'm def for the survival of the human race..fcuk, i'm one of 'em. But seriously, I don't personally NEED KFC. Also, do some research on free range meat products. You'll learn something new.

Nick Sheldon
Really want to know the truth about how those 750 Million chickens we eat are raised?I live in Tennessee Chickens around here are bred for 2 purposes, Show and Food. The show chickens basically do have presidential suites. They are fed top notch food, often costing twice as much in a month than what it would take to feed your self. The food chickens are raised in a long cage, which is divided into sections. First you have the incubator, where the eggs are placed for hatching. This is a fairly good size cage, well it's not a cage really, cause the truth is, there is no light allowed into the chicken coops. As teh chickens get bigger and bigger, they are stuffed into larger pins. Yea literally stuffed. a 5ftx5ftx5ft will probably be stuffed with about 40 - 60 chickens. They are fed the equivelent of baby food for an adult 30 years old, who is really not wanting to eat it, but to survive you must eat it. You guys act like its not really a big deal, were just going to eat them right? Put yourself in their position, what if we was a race of animals bred for the sole purpose of food. You guys really dont think about that much do you? Sure Pamela Anderson has given more handjobs than any other girl we'll ever meet, and her p*ss probably looks like a bag pipe sagging all over the place. But atleast she is getting her head in the right place this time, instead of in a guy's lap. Maybe those of you laughing about it and criticizing someone pushing for a more humane way of treating the things we consume should get your faces out of some guy's lap. Just think, the more confined a chicken is, the more it spreads disease. Did you know salmonela didn't start to become a big issue till they started confined breeding. Also, did you know the White to Brown Meat ration has decreased since confinement, you find yourself eating brown meat more than white, also this drives the cost of white meat up, which means you are probably paying 5 bucks a lbs for white meat. Think before you start saying crap like "roflmao:)" and "lmao lmao " cause its really not funny. Hear Hear Couldn't have said it better myself. scumdogmillionaire
why is this funny to you guys? Jason Alexander (George Costanza) isn't doing KFC commercials anymore for the same reson. shermang
Welcome to the Internet gentlemen. A place the ignorant come to share their views on matters they know nothing about. There's an amazing amount of ignorance in this thread. The Internet has a major flaw. Thousands of ignorant highschool students run around on forums talking about things they don't know anything about, spreading their misinformed opinions. Stop being this flaw. You look like complete idiots. Now on to my views, The only thing about this I'm really worried about is the quality of chicken we eat. Have any of you ever tasted a chicken that's of proper age for slaughter and has been fed healthy grains and grazed naturally all it's life? It is absolutely amazing, the taste is very far from what you get when you 'kfc' a chicken before you slaughter it. The quality of the protien in the meat is also higher. The difference between class A and class C eggs? Quality of grains eaten by the mother and living conditions. Ever wonder why class A taste better? because they are better. Same situation goes for chicken meat, it's just not as noticable. Edited October 20, 2003 by shermang

Some read to the "Carl Sagan's Baloney Detection Kit" can be good... From there we can pick two methods used in the thread: ad hominem -- Latin for "to the man," attacking the arguer and not the argument (e.g. The Reverend Dr. Smith is a known Biblical fundamentalist, so her objections to evolution need not be taken seriously); and maybe the best: straw man -- caricaturing a position to make it easier to attack (e.g., Scientists suppose that living things simply fell together by chance -- a formulation that wilfully ignores the central Darwinian insight, that Nature ratchets up by saving what works and discarding what doesn't. Or -- this is also a short-term/long-term fallacy -- environmentalists care more for snail darters and spotted owls than they do for people);
