I'm thinking of getting a digital camera soon, and was wondering if anyone had opinions on this camera.

It looks like it's a great deal, for ?200 I can get the camera, and an additional 128mb memory (that should be enough, right?)

I'd mainly be using it for just general pics, or things that I think would make interesting wallpapers etc.

It only has 2x optical zoom; most have 3x.  Other than that, I think you would be very happy with it.  I have a Canon Powershot A70, but they sell for $300 in the U.S.

I'm actually considering the P72 now - 3x optical zoom, and you're able to attach other lenses to it, it's only ?20 more, so I shouldn't have a problem getting it (parents will be loaning me cash for it:pp)

When I was looking at DigiCams, it came down to the Sony P72 and the Canon A70. The Canon was $30 cheaper, although it doesn't have rechargeable batteries included. The Canon offers more manual control, and also accepts certain lenses. If you view my other posts on this subject, you will find some good links to reviews.

doh, you gotta talk em into it man.

remember to point out how much cheaper it is than film in the long run!

I think I might be able to eventually - they just don't see the point in getting one really, other than the fact it's digital, and processing film isn't really an issue - it's hardly anything to get a film developed, and then they get a new film free with the pics.

Andrewfee, Sorry to bump an old thread. Did you buy the Sony Camera? If so, how are you finding it?!

Unfortunately I didn't get it in the end :(

I had a couple of bills I had forgotten about, and as such, didn't have enough money to get the camera.

I did have ?150 last week, but have now decided against getting one for the moment (I have M.E, and have had for almost a year now, so I'm not really outside much just now anyway)

Seeing as it's coming up for xmas, I convinced my parents to give me my cash early (last year when I ordered stuff for xmas near the beginning of xmas it arrived 3 weeks after) so I now have a set of great Logitech Z-680s.

I haven't had speakers for well over a year now (I had sold my cheap ones, intending on buying the Z-680s but the gamecube was reduced by a huge ammount, and I ended up spending the cash on that and some games) so I am really glad I got them, and hadn't realised how good sound could, well... sound.

I still intend on getting a camera, and would love to take up photography as a hobby, sometime next year when I am (hopefully) better, and able to go out and about a lot more, but at the moment there wouldn't really be much point in having it. (I am not opposed to anyone buying me it if they are feeling especially generous at this time of year though... ;)) )
