Any utility that checks the connectivity issues in the system?

Recommended Posts

Hii guyz,

Is there any tool available that checks the connectivity issues within the computer system? (Windows / Linux)

Suppose, if the net is working slow, the tool should point out the cause for it

OR

if the net is not working, the tool should identity the reason like DNS not configured and etc. . ..

Thanks in advance

you mean like a diagnostic tool - back in the XP days you had netdiag. Windows 7 has the built in troubleshooters, -- right click your network icon in the tray and say troubleshoot

As "net is working slow" ?? Since there could be any of a 1000 different variables to have a user think the net is working slow that have nothing to do with the actual network ;) I doubt your going to find a tool to fix your problems for you.

That is such a blanket type statement with no actual meaning behind it, its impossible to say what the user thinks is wrong. Its like saying my car is not working.

How about you tell us what you think is happening, and we can point you to what to look to that could be the issue.

What is your computer actually doing that makes you think "net is working slow"?

Thank you for your suggestion.

The reason I was curious is ::

4 systems are connected in LAN. 3 systems are getting the desired speed. But not the 4th. I was curious why this 4th system is having slow internet issues. There may be 100 reasons I know, but I need a tool through which we can test whether ::

- Some program update is going in the backend.

- Some settings are not working configured

- There is Packet loss

- etc

Or there should be some tool which should have options like :

- check DHCP config

- traceroute and if the response is slow, then notify the same

- etc

Thanks

"3 systems are getting the desired speed. But not the 4th."

This is like saying my car and the wifes car work, but my sons doesn't

Desired speed? So your saying when you go to speed test on machine 1 you get X/Y for up/down but when you go to machine 4 you get A/B ?

Sorry there is no tool there going to tell you what is wrong -- well wait there is one great tool that can do it, its called your BRAIN!! Sorry there is not some button you can push that tells you what is not working right.

If something specific is not working, then test for that.

What do you want to check in dhcp config? Sure there are tools that can do a traceroute and warn if something changes, sure there are tools that can monitor for packet loss, sure there are tools that can monitor ping time.

If you would give us some actual details other than "its slow" we might be able to help you figure out your problem.. With the one tool need we need - our brains ;)

You could also try capturing the traffic on the system that is giving you grief to attempt to identify what is being hogged or causing slow speeds, also monitoring the networking perfmon wouldn't hurt either
