devnulllore
HI, I am not sure how to explain this issue except that at some point Internet Explorer 9 worked like a browser should. Then suddenly, and I cannot fathom what happened or why, suddenly it constantly crashes, I use Soluto and it has caught as many as 10 crashes in one day, some pages I frequent that used to open immediately now open so slowly I can go make a sandwich and come back before it opens, pages constantly become unresponsive and windows close and reopen as you will see in the error picture I am posting. Now I have Windows 7 SP1 x64 and this is the 32 bit version of IE9. I have tried the following, in no particular order, resetting the browser-reboot-reset again and then run it as I normally would (this is per Microsoft). Cleared the cache, changed the cache size many times, turned off hardware acceleration ran the Microsoft fix to reregister all the files and repair any damaged ones, ran the System File Checker, Used Microsoft?s fix to reset the number of streams IE can use. I went so far as to uninstall IE9 and try to reinstall it but no matter what I did it would not reinstall at that point. I had to restore from a backup I did 2 nights ago. I feel like it's possessed. I have tried pretty much every other browser out there and I simply prefer IE9. I think something is very corrupt that I am not quite getting to. Other than doing another clean install is there anyway of completely repairing IE9 to its original state? I have virus scanned the crap out of my system AND I do have Norton 360 installed so even if it is that causing IE to freak out I will pull it and try something else. I just do not know where to go with this. I'll provide whatever info anyone needs if someone would be willing to help. Thanks!
cybertimber2008
I am in a similar situation, though my tabs don't take sandwhich-making-long to fix when they freeze. I also have problems with pages suddenly become unwilling to scroll for awhile as if the tab is frozen. Other tabs still work though. Win7 SP1 x64. I wonder if it's AV... what AV are you using? I'm using Avast!
Marshall Veteran Posted July 10, 2012 Veteran Share Posted July 10, 2012 I'd bet the problem is due to one of your add-ons. Disable all of your add-ons and reenable them one by one until you find the troublesome one. Since you're using Norton 360, the add-on "Norton Vulnerability Protection" has been known to cause crashes. Regards

I'm using Avast! Hi, I mentioned above, I am using Norton 360 and it does have an "Identiry Safe" toolbar and addon. It works like LastPass and fills in your UN/Passwords for you. If I find out it's Norton I will gladly get rid of it and use something else with LastPass. I only got Norton because I won it. I hope someone with expertise in IE9 can help us. Cheers,
rfirth
Have you gone into "manage add-ins"? Disable all of them?

Damnit, I thought that 'could' be the problem but I will have to backup all my passwords etc... before I get rid of that. I wonder if I can import the Norton Identity safe backup into Lastpass? I disable and see if it works. Thanks!

Knife Party
sounds like its a conflict of some sort, like an AV, toolbar, addon or possibly malware/spyware Norton can't detect. Or, some vital dll or component has been removed, tweaked or malware manipulated. Can you try and restore OP? Or possibly boot into safemode and try scanning with other malware/spyware tools? Growled Member Posted July 11, 2012 Member Share Posted July 11, 2012 Haved you tried another browser just to make sure it's IE9 and not your entire system?
evacc44
Run "Internet Explorer (No add-ons)" (search from the start menu). Basically it's IE Safe mode. If this runs normal, then it is definitely one of your add-ons that is causing the issues. If It still runs like crap then it is something else....but I have a feeling an add-on is to blame. devnulllore
Well, all I have for add-ons in IE9 besides the default Microsoft add-ons is the Norton Identity Safe (it's like Last Pass w/ anti phishing) Java, the Flash player and Adobe Shockwave. But it still does it in safe mode. It seems moot now as other random programs began to exhibit the same types of problems. I then ran the System File Checker off one of the boot disks and it gave me error after error of damaged files it could not fix. I worked with Microsoft Tech Support for hours and they recommend a clean install if the system check could not retrieve the files from the original install disc. We also checked the readability of my Windows source disc and it is perfect. Something very damaging must have happened. I have an Acronis backup I did immediately after the Windows 7 installation and activation, when everything worked. SO I am preparing to restore that and document my every step, install and uninstall I do. Statistically speaking others who I have read who do this are running well for years and can back out of any problem by backtracking. The funny part, and you may see this in earlier posts, I was VERY careful with this install. I run reliable and time tested AV/Firewall/AS, I install no more than I ever need besides my games and do regular tune ups (Defrags, check disks and virus scans) and I change no default Windows settings other than what is highly recommended here and I never use registry cleaners. I will certainly add SFC to my Tune up regiment. That said this seems to me an anomaly. I will post back at a later time with some findings. devnulllore
After reading more about this issue I contacted Norton. They said it very well could be Norton360 causing the issues. I sent them several log files so they can see if everything is installed and running correctly. If not they will instruct me further. I am expecting a reply tomorrow. I will post more info as I get it.
