TechnoDeviL
Hi all. I have a big problem with my internet connection. I will explain the problem: I can surf the net, but in the last 2 weeks, when I open a site (this whit a lot of sites), the progress bar will load a lot of time and never ends... So I can't see the site... other people can see these sites... I formatted my HD, still nothing... what can be? Maybe my internet provider problem? Please let me know, is very frustrating! Thanks in advance.
newsgeek
Might be your HOSTS file Located... C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc Open the HOSTS file in Notepad or a plain text editor and remove any sites that you want to view that are in there... JustGeorge
You're not alone man. I've been having this prob for a month now on MSN and another ISP called Highstream. I thought it was Highstream, so I cancelled them and got MSN. It happened with MSN, so I re-installed the modem. That did not fix the problem so I bought another modem which never corrected the problem. Finally erased and reloaded XP and still got the same thing! I can still use IM but all sites say they can't be displayed. I can disconnect, them reconnect and go to the site. 10 minutes later, same problem. I think it has to do with a recent hotfix update. I would have no idea which one though. I'm glad I'm not the only one having this problem.
TechnoDeviL
Ooooh mate I'm displeasured you had to do all these things without success :( Well, hope we can fix the problem as fast as possible... But I don't think it depends on a hotfix, because I formatted and reinstalled XP (not only for this problem, because of a new HD :)), so I have no patches... Let's see... JustGeorge
Maybe this is some damage left by all the new virus attacks of late. Not on our computers, but with the ISPs themselves.
theyarecomingforyou
Hmmm... with my computer I will often get a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" message, even though the sites are there. Sometimes if I try again it will load immediately... sometimes it will never load. This is really annoying me. I can use other internet based programs (MSN Messenger, etc), but IE (and Opera as well) are completely intermmitent... I use Internet Connection Sharing, but even when I reconfigure it I still have problems... I always keep up to date on Windows Update, so it's possible a recent patch has messed up my computer... :( - I don't want to format again...
