Lately Im getting into ambiental music like:

So I want to research a little more into this genere, any recommendations? (and no, Ambiental is not New Age)

What is ambiental? I know of ambient, but not this ambiental of which you speak...

If it's the same thing I'm thinking of, I can recommend some Autechre's Amber LP, Plastikman, and Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works 85-92 and Selected Ambient Works II (Cliffs is a goddamn amazing song off that).

Tim, I suggest you pick some sample songs from the artist mentioned in this thread, in that way you can see the differences :)

Linkin Park has some good ambiental out. You might also wanna try Papa Roach. I'm not sure if thats what your looking for, but I hope it helps.

Ok quit the stupid ****. We all know you like Linkin Park and dont like what sd likes. Who cares. Grow up.

Don't know if it's quite up your alley--can be more "artsy" and tend not to have regular rhythmic stuff--but you might want to look up Brian Eno and go from there.... Perhaps his "Nerve Net" would be a decent balance?

What's been classified as "ambient" has moved from his stuff to some things more like Enigma in recent years.

Enigma, Delerium, Dagda, and Govinda. Although they tend to be more classified as New Age, I would think they are more ambient music then anything.

Personally I classify Delirium and Enigma (among others, like Era) as new age, nevertheless they are still excellent bands, just not what Im looking in this thread, however I will check the other two bands you mention

Ah ha! Good to know, though finding folk comparable to Eno can be a bit trickier.

I remember listening to folk like Cocteau Twins and Laurie Anderson around the same time I listened to a ton of Eno, though they're certainly a bit different and possibly have a bit more popular appeal.

You might very well like a lot of what can be put out by computer music departments at various universities, though it tends not to get a ton of media attention except in its own circles.

You *might* want to look into stuff put out by places like Stanford's CCRMA, IRCAM (in Paris), etc. There are compilation CDs of various related things out there if you're looking for stuff that appeals to you. Can vary a lot, and require a bit of tracking down, but can be really interesting stuff, especially if you're also interested in the technology that's gone into things at times over the years.

Simplest jumping-off point I might suggest would the the Electronic Music Foundation (www.emf.org). I'd expect what they refer to as "soundscapes" and "soundscape art" at their website would be what you're looking for. Kind of what's still most directly comparable to Eno.
