+BudMan MVC Posted October 20, 2003 MVC Share Posted October 20, 2003 which porn search page - this could help in figuring out what junk you infected yourself with. For now check what your search settings are.
eye_see_you
I would say set your properties back to default , run some spyware removal program , search to see if any rougue programs were installed
tiger2k
in the address bar it just shows whatever i typed before, if i right click the page it shows what i typed for the address in the properties dialog, so i guess i have to show u a picture of what it is and i did a spyware search and adaware comes up with nothing :s

blackice912 Veteran Posted October 20, 2003 Veteran Share Posted October 20, 2003 Something like this happened to me before - it gave me "free daily lesbian pictures" Ad-aware wouldn't detect it, but I found it in "Internet Options/Settings/View Objects" Might be something in there. caye
ok, try this. open your registry editor, edit->find, input "search page" in the "find what" box, see if there is the address that is same as the address it displayed when you typed the wrong page address. if yes, delete it. and don't fail to "find next" after you delete the first one you find. AdamKnowles
Yeah there is a file that you can modify to change all the text on that page. If you are talking about the "web page could not be found" page. I don't know the actual name of the file but if you watch the status bar on iexplorer you will see the location of the file as it loads it. take a screen shot to help with the name as the text will only be there for a few seconds. once you find the file simply open it in notepad and change the settings to whatever you want. I have seen this done before the only thing is that i can't remember the name of the goddam file.

OPaul
The setting for that page is in the registry, seach the URL and replace it with what you want. The default for the keys that control this are as follows; [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] "Search Page"="http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&ar=iesearch" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl] "provider"="" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search] "CustomizeSearch"="http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchcust.htm" "SearchAssistant"="http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchasst.htm"
Mysterio
also...there's likely a executable firing up through the registry run key: here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run that will change the above mentioned settings even if you yourself corrects it...make sure to check that section in the registry for any unknown executable...some trojans go as far as to make the registry change for individual users logging into an NT based system...so even if you log in as the admin and make all these corrections...as soon as a user logs in; that run key for this user fires up the given executable file... you have to find this file and remove it off of your drive....
