Cheryl_27
Wondering if anyone has run into this same problem on AT&T (or other DSL) & if they ever found the real problem. Use a 2Wire 2701 HG-B (in BRIDGE mode) w/ WRT54GL router. 2Wire is ~ 6, 7 yrs; router ~ 2 yrs. Never loose internet connection, except rarely for a few sec, then reconnects. Last nite while surfing, suddenly browser couldn't connect. All lights on modem (power, ethernet, DSL) were solid green. (Wouldn't have Internet light, since in bridge mode). All router lights solid green. But, powered modem off / on anyway & reset router & restored BU file w/ proper config settings, PW, etc. I've reset it before after power outages (though have on UPS), & restored config file always works instantly. After all I did & support had me do last nite (below) that didn't work, this AM as soon as I reconnected router to modem - w/o rebooting or anything else, had internet connection. Modem & router left powered on overnight (but NOT interconnected). Modem was left conn. to PC Ethernet & to DSL line overnight. Question is (read steps below), was it likely an AT&T server / line problem, or their syst. not recognizing the old OR NEW PW (immediately), all along, in spite of support saying, "not showing any line / server probs on their end"? Can't IMAGINE the modem or router "fixing" themselves overnight, while still powered on. Last nite, after checking modem & router, figured problem was on their end. Called & put on hold w/ "automated guy," that said, "I think you said, you want to blow up AT&T. Is that correct?"..."Yes." Later, automated guy said "he'd run some tests on my line." After couple tests, he said "showed wrong PW was being sent to their server." Unlikely, from my end, but... Finally, got Jane from India. Got thru rebooting modem / router, blah, blah - pretty fast -no change. She SAID checked my line & "showed a good signal ("no server probs"). Who knows what she did. She agreed to reset PW for network / server access (not email). Entered it in router, saved, powered off modem, router, PC, then back on. All lights still green but no connection (Vista Network Center showed local connection (as before), still no internet. Had me disconnect router, build a new "PPPoE miniWAN Broadband" connection in Vista (using my acct email & PW she just reset) & connected PC direct to modem. No internet via MiniWAN connection either, but no idea if the "wizard" set it up correctly or if it'd ever work in this situation. Wanted me to take 2Wire out of bridge mode & try its router. I doubted it'd work or was the problem (given status of lights on modem, router), plus been on phone 2+ hrs. I was right. And we'd already - supposedly - ruled out the router. Said I'd do it in morning, or call back. Depending on others' experiences, only reason I'd call back is to demand credit for jacking me around for hrs, if the problem was on their end all along & should've known about an intermittent PW problem affecting many customers. Later this AM, found this LARGE "notice" on AT&T's support page as "hot topic." "We have identified several intermittent login and password-related issues." A little ambiguous if it affects DSL network PWs: http://www.att.com/e...bid=iI25wNf9fkO If anyone has experienced this & found the reason or has a good idea of cause, please let me know. Thanks!
