Ahmed Samir
Hey guys, I've been researching backup software for windows where I can securely backup my stuff in the cloud. I was going to go with Mozy.com but I heard that they have bad issues, so I looked further and I found SOSOnlineBackup. I am still skeptical about the whole thing and I thought maybe I'd ask here and get expert opinions. What would you guys recommend? Thanks! Matthew_Thepc
I really just sync most of my Documents and Pictures library with SkyDrive, but for the non-synced stuff I use the built in Windows File History thing (Windows 8). As for third party programs, I've heard that SpiderOak is a great one. rfirth 1 Share
+Xinok Subscriber² Posted July 25, 2012 Subscriber² Share Posted July 25, 2012 In terms of encryption, you can't do better than services like Wuala or SpiderOak. These services don't know your password or encryption keys, so if you lose / forget your password, you're f***ed. :p Both Mozy and SOSOnlineBackup have the ability to recover your account, which means they at least store the encryption keys somewhere. BackBlaze lets you set a private password for encryption, but you have to provide this password if you ever want to recover your files. In terms of data reliability, nothing beats Amazon S3. Then there are 3rd party programs (such as Duplicati) that can backup to this service securely. Matthew_Thepc 1 Share
Glassed Silver
Maybe Carbonite? A bunch of youtubers whose opinions I value suggest that service. Never looked into it, because I'm not in the market for cloud backups. (I have WAY too much stuff) Glassed Silver:mac

+BudMan MVC Posted July 26, 2012 MVC Share Posted July 26, 2012 'where I can securely backup my stuff in the cloud" How much stuff are you talking? There are lots of places to get space in the cloud. Are you talking 200MB or 200TB, I would guess somewhere in between ;) Give us a ruff ballpark number, also are you willing to PAY if so what kind of budget? Ahmed Samir
I'm talking about 2~5 GB or something. And of course I will pay for it. No such service comes free :p I thought about R1Soft but it just backs up everything that can be unnecessary. The S3 backup option seems to make more sense. Maybe I will go for carbonite or spideroak
+BudMan MVC Posted July 27, 2012 MVC Share Posted July 27, 2012 "No such service comes free" They do for the amount of space your talking..
+InsaneNutter MVC Posted July 27, 2012 MVC Share Posted July 27, 2012 For for space and price you are talking about i would just use Dropbox, you start with 2gb and get an extra 500mb for every person you refer. I've maxed out at 28gigs at the moment and have never paid anything for it.
