Best Router/Modem Combo

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a Router with ADSL Modem included as well, to my new apartment, i need them in one device as space is problem really...

I am getting a 8MB Connection, and my main concern with the Router is to be heavy duty, meaning i will be leaving it downloading 24/7 usually, and i don't want a lot of cut out and drop connections. while it will be connecting to lot of devices, PS3 , WD Live TV, 2 Mobiles, Tablet and a laptop.

That what i've found so far avialable in my online store that could be good for me:

Linksys X2000 Wireless-N Router with ADSL2+ Modem

D-Link DSL-2750U Wireless N ADSL2+ 4-Port Wi-Fi Router

Linksys WAG120N ADSL 2 Wireless Router

so what do u think?

the x2000 is about 78.47 euros and the wag120n is about 50 euros. id the get wag and then buy a Linksys DDWRT router. expensive? yes worth it? hell yes.

my problem is not the price. its about the space.

but if bought the wag one, it will have a router as well, so why to buy the DDWRT router then?!

Personally not a fan of combo devices, normally such devices are locked to vendor firmware. This is limitation I just don't like - with any combo device you have just put all your eggs into one basket for starters, and limited your options for other configurations. Modems are normally pretty small, same with routers - are you really that short spaced that you could not have 2 devices?

I have never seriously looked into any combo devices - so I can not suggest which of those is better option. But good luck in your quest.

I find Linksys to be the most frustrating brand on the market where Netgear has been the simplest to own. Specifically, the Netgear WNDR3700 has been just perfect for me. It's fast, stable and doesn't require daily reboots to get maximum speed like the last Linksys I owned.

It's a bit dated since tech changes so quickly, but here's the page over at NewEgg: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16833122326

I'd have to vote Netgear aswell solid performance and stable over time mine hasn't reconnected in six months and I've not had to reboot it in over a year

I'll throw in the Linksys E4200 because it is what I use. Put Tomato on it for better wireless performance when compared to DD-WRT but for 8Mbps, both will still be good. I gt 175Mbps over wireless n 5Ghz on DD-WRT but closer to 250Mbps with Tomato.

The Netgear 3700 was great too while I had it
