To the people whining about the Xbox version bein' $h!t, do yer homework. Fault truly lies on Microsoft. Xbox Live is run by Microsoft and Microsoft alone. They have refused to allow any manufacturers to use the Xbox broadband modem w/o goin' thru Xbox Live. Obviously this is for Microsoft to rake in money on the live service, which is understandable. However, EA (and others) have stated they will not develop an online component for a game unless they, the manufacturer, has ultimate say over the broadband connection. Sony allows manufacturers to setup their own online services for the PS2, and that is why EA games have the online component for PS2 games, but not the Xbox titles.

Also, picked up a copy on of SSX 3...rox.

I chose Elise to play and have been building her up. I gotta say, if you played SSX Tricky, the control system is like second nature in ssx3. I was able to pick it up and play instantly, even tho my Tricky is on GC. They've made it quite easy to land jumps in this game, which is GREAT for me. I'm the type that gets really frustrated and starts swearing if I keep falling.. and really, where's the fun in that?

the uber and super uber moves are just absolutely nuts. the animation is fluid from one trick to the next too. Another cool thing about the uber moves, is you can hold them for as long as you want now so long as you don't let go of the buttons. I was in a super pipe level and got huge air.. was doing Elise's lalalockstep uber for like 6 seconds :| points just racking up!

oh.. to offset the cost of this game, I sold Eternal Darkness to my sister and put up 3 games here at work on our ad page: Starfox Adventures, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Amped Freestyle Snowboarding.

What I found interesting is that the 2 gamecube games sold within 2 hours. I still have yet to hear from anyone interested in the xbox game. strange huh? I didn't think the GC games would go that fast.

Just picked it up finally after forgetting to bring my CC to work with me yesterday. I've played one race on peak one and am using Psymon. Man, I have to get used to the timing of things again. I got so used to NFS that my timing is all off.

Its all good just playing.

I had never played any of the SSX games until a 2 weeks ago my wife rented SSX Tricky for our GC, we have been playing every single day, and rerented it once and now its late :p Best game I have played in ages.

kxgard... ssx tricky on the gc had me hooked for months lol its a great game :)

i just wanted to show you this about ssx3 on the gamecube. i got it from IGN's head2head article..

In the case of GameCube, it doesn't even work properly. You actually have access to less tricks; thus, less combos and tricks.

Function..........GameCube

Grab...............L

Grab...............R

Grab...............Z

Grab...............N/A

Tweak.............B

Reset..............Y

Hand Plant.......X

Board Press.....C-stick

Pre-wind..........D-pad

Jump...............A

Exactly why is this? GameCube doesn't have as many buttons as the other controllers, and EA insists it could not create an intuitive scheme.

Dave Elton, one of SSX 3's producers at EA notes, "Unfortunately, because the GameCube controller features fewer buttons than the other two platforms we ended up losing tricks on the GameCube version. It was something that we struggled with on both Tricky and SSX 3, but in the end we could not come up with a solution that allowed the player the ability to perform the same amount of grabs while maintaining the intuitiveness of the controls that has made the game attractive to many people."

We wondered, "Why not just map the grabs to the L, R, A, X, and Y buttons; maybe leave the reset to a menu function?"

Mr. Elton said about the control layout, "During the development of SSX 3 we spent many hours playing around with the GameCube controller and in the end there was no way that we could make the fourth grab fit and still maintain an intuitive control scheme. We struggled with the fact that we absolutely had to maintain a jump button, tweak button, hand plant button and reset button. Right there we are using up four of the seven available buttons. That left us with only three remaining buttons upon which we could map the grabs without resorting to a modifier, which was something we did not want to do. Instead, we implemented two controller configurations that offered the player the choice of moving the 'Reset' from the face controls to the shoulder and vice versa as it seemed that people were divided on which one they preferred. We found that certain players who tended to 'button-mash' would inadvertently hit the 'Reset' button, often leading to a frustrating experience."

A satisfying explanation, or was there perhaps a neglecting of other options for the GCN pad?

in short? the trick repertoire on the GC version is smaller due to the fact that the controller doesn't have as many buttons. BUT. the same happened on SSX Tricky on the GC. I had no idea about that.. i'm guessing you might not have known either. so i mean, its just as fun, just not capable of as many tricks.

I don't think it'll be a big deal. If you hadn't known, you probably wouldn't have even noticed. (like i did on ssx tricky) just thought i'd let ya know :)

I must say the races are very well done, but are very difficult to navigate the first time through lol. Man, I used to own at this game, I have to practice more. It's been months since I've played tricky.

bangbang.. yea.. i found that at first too. VERY lost on the first time through a course.. its not as black and white as it was in tricky as to where to go. luckily you play it the 2nd time and you're already better at it.
