pc telephone

Question

I will like to use my pc to make telephone calls using my house telephone line without using google voice/skype and others (number porting and other various issues). I already have a headset, i know i need some kind of modem (this might work). Does anyone know what i kind of software i need so that i can answer/recieve calls? does windows 7/8 have software builtin?

How about incoming calls, will that popup how do i answer calls?

No idea, its been decades since I used dialup modems :p

I would imagine it would popup with something, try it, ring your house phone from your mobile phone :)

Depends on the modems... some companies added their bundled software with their modems.

I have mine and even included the software but I couldn't remember what software it was since it has been awhile since I have used.

Windows 8 might come with Skype included when it comes out since Skype is now a division of Microsoft. If not, you can manually download and install Skype after the Windows 8 installation.

will i be able to use the modem with skype instead of my adsl connection?

Skype is a VoIP app, it needs the internet to connect / dial so unless you are planning on using dialup internet, no, you will need your ADSL connection

Detection beat me. And Detection is right. Skype is a VoIP application can be used on any computers, laptops, any mobile devices such as tablets/smartphones.

Skype can not be used as traditional phone. It can be used chatting over the internet via cable or ADSL/DSL connection. But Skype does have "Skype ready" phones at their online store. You might want to try it.
