I believe you're misremembering the part about the Chinese saving us. Red Dawn was a pro-American, patriotic movie. Having the Communist Chinese save us would spoil that.

no i am right it was chinese tht saved the usa. At the end...There is a little paragraph stating that the chinese came helped the usa regroup and defeat the russians. Back when this movie was made it was the cold war and china was not bad to us.

Uh, the original was 1984. That was long after Vietnam, which we fought to keep it away from the communists. Because China and Russia where already communist at that time.

cold war ended in 1991 (debatable, some say late 80's). So this movie still is about cold war era, where Russia was the big baddie not China.

You are right about the china thing. I was wrong. They only talk about it for a second in the movie about the chinese being on America's side.

I didn't say anything about the Cold War. The reason we went into Vietnam (originally) was to keep away the 'Red Tide' from overrunning Asia, since China and Russia were communist. Communists were the enemy, even if we weren't at war with them.
