Steaming music from PC to Xbox?

Question

I've started using the Zune software to stream music to my Xbox it works really well, but I recently noticed that the Zune software has been littering my music folders with "folder.jpg" artwork images. I can't stand it doing this. This why I uninstalled WMP and WMC.

Is there any other software that can stream music to Xbox without clogging up my Hard Drive with pointless album art images.

Any DLNA server should do the trick.

I thought folder.jpg is hidden within windows? Sure there is no option to disable it? As MP3 can have album art embedded into them.

Any DLNA server should do the trick.

I don't really know what that means.

folder options > view > hide protected....

yea they are hidden, it's not really that they are visible it's just the principle. They also take up space as I have alot of music; so far it's created 150mb+ of these jpgs.

Can anyone suggest some software than can do this aswell as the Zune software? I tried some software called "orb caster" but it's dreadfully slow and constantly looses connection.

It's been a long time since I've used it, but PS3 Media Server is regarded as the best PC software for streaming/transcoding video to the 360. I imagin it can handle audio pretty well too.

That's so weird. I just happened to figure out that I can stream from my computer to my xbox just an hour or so ago.

I've used the xbox players and connected to my computer and have used the media centers but kinda like the streaming option better, using WMP.

As for album art, I have for many years added covers to my music on purpose, no matter what player I've used. I don't see how that'd clutter up things.

My music is folderized by artist albums, each showing the album cover, which I think looks quite awsome.

Yes I add my own album art to the mp3's and the album folder aswell, but WMP & Zune insist on creating there own extra images, and I just can't stand it. WMP seemed to be the worst offender creating about 3 extra image files in each folder. That's why I uninstalled it.

Personally use Plex. It supports streaming over the internet and you can stream from collections shared with you from other plex users. It has clients for Windows Phone, iOS, android, some SmartTVs/bluray players as well as the Roku box (app on roku looks just like netflix).

It does some other nice things as well as streaming/transcoding/DLNA, such as grabbing IMDB data/cover art etc for movies/tv shows etc you've ripped (or haven't).
