DSL Connection on network?

Recommended Posts

I currently have ISDN LAN on my business network and Verizon recently informed me that DSL is now available, so I ordered it. They're sending me a DSL modem and a 4 port router. Do I connect the modem to the router and then connect one of the router's outputs to my network switch? If that's the case, then all the PC's on the network should get Internet access just like we do with the ISDN setup. Am I correct?

It depends on how your ISDN is set up. You will need to plug your DSL modem into the WAN port of the router, and then plug one of the LAN ports of the router to your switch. You will need to give the router an IP address, and configure it to work with the DSL service. After it is configured, you will need to use Verizon's DNS settings, and also use your routers IP address as the gateway.

Thanks for the response Fowen, it makes sense. Unfortunately, some girl from Verizon called today and said DSL is NOt available on my numbers. Something to do with a "loopback" or some crap. I told her they checked the line yesterday and it was OK'd, but I might as well be talking to this keyboard.

Oh well...

thats not good....don't you have a cable internet provider in your area? How many numbers do you have? Did they check all of them? Could they install another number just for the DSL?

I had Qwest 640K at my office as a backup connections just in case our Cable Internet went down, and I always wanted to get it upgraded, but they always said that it was capped out, even though I am lesss them 1500 feet away from the CO. To make a long story short, they were only checking one fo the 22 phone lines we had comming into the building. I am know surfing on 7mbit dsl :)
