Yahoo mail not delivered

We're having a weird on-going issue. A couple of clients are trying to email us but are getting the following after 2 days:

Mail server for "mydomain.com" unreachable for too long

I've done a search online and have found numerous posts with people having the same issue - but nowhere does it have any kind of resolution. I've also tried Yahoo's postmaster section - which is crap btw - it always ends up with "sign in" to submit a support request, which I have also done and not had a response for a number of weeks now.

Has anybody else seen this? There is no additional information in the bounceback - no error codes, nothing. I've checked and double checked our PTR, MX, A, and SPF records and they are all correct ---- it is only Yahoo that has this problem. To make matters worse, it seems it's an intermittent fault as well. One of our clients has been emailing us without issue, then all of a sudden, he's getting these NDRs - no changes to our system whatsoever.

Appreciated if anyone can shed any light on this.

Is this when certain clients are emailing you from certain domains, or is it kind of sporadic across the board? It does sound like something with Yahoo's side of things, maybe they are filtering the emails from those domains, or just having issues with their incoming email.

Is this on Yahoo Business? They may get back to you eventually, though from experience they've taken 3-7 days to get back to me on stuff & then their response is never helpful anyway. Or you could try digging up a phone number. They do have a phone number for their website business but I've never seen one for their business email... yeah good luck with that!

The company I work at also has their email w/ Yahoo Mail (business), I'm not sure how often we've gotten the issue you described.. I know once a few weeks back I did have someone in Mexico that couldn't email us, even though I could email them, in the end they had to email us to our GMail domain.

Yahoo's outgoing SMTP servers do go down on a regular basis, so I wouldn't be surprised if their incoming POP servers would also go down, but that would be more of a sporadic downtime issue vs certain people not being able to email you at all.

The problem is that Yahoo Mail is crap, if the problem is on Yahoo's end there's a good chance they'll never fix it. I wish I could be more optimistic, just that I've had to work with their business email for the last 10-something years & they've never really done anything to improve their services in all that time. (we're actually looking at moving off of Yahoo, probably to GMail, but that's a different topic)
