Sick of Captcha?

Recommended Posts

Actually I just saw something like this implemented yesterday, when buying ticket from the movies. I had to grab de Popcorn and put it on a basket. Much better than Captcha. I was trying to score some big act tickets in ticketmaster, and lost them to someone else because I got the damn Captcha wrong!!!!

Much better. There was one point where I came across a captcha, and I couldn't even read it, even after refreshing over and over.

Definitely sick of Captcha here. I feel like it has gotten more and more unreadable over the years. There are times where I have to try 2 or 3 times because I can't make out whats in the image.

I sent them feedback concerning the audio issues. I'll let you know when he emails me.

Or, hopefully, he'll reply in this thread as I gave him the URL in my feedback.

The thing about Captcha is that only one word is actually a verification. The other word is them using you to decipher a photocopied word so they can offer book digitizing. I always figure out which word is the verification one, and then type in a horrible swear word for the othe. Yes I'm that childish. But that's what Captcha gets for trying to make me work for them for free

It's not childish at all; It's just stupid.

I thought there must have been a reason for the second actual word...thats pretty damn sneaky.

I like the idea of thing and I havent gone through the site but would be great if they had a more professional one. Maybe you just drag your mouse through a quick minimalist maze or something.

How do you go about figuring out which word it is?

They're not sneaky; they advertise it very proudly. And so they should. They took something that people were already doing, and made efficient use of the time. They don't do it so they can 'offer book digitizing', they do it so they can digitize books. All the Google Books searches you see, among many other uses, are done through methods like this.

What they want to do next is offer website translation services in exchange for learning another language for free. They will offer you free language classes, and then have you translate a block of text as part of your learning, and that translation will be used to offer websites in all languages.

You guys don't get it, by typing in CAPTCHA's you are helping translate books and texts that are not recognizable by software that scans them.

It might be a pain but you're helping humanity more than this game ever could!

While I can't stand CAPTCHA, I have only really just understood the dual purpose of it.

Shame they can't merge the two, you type a single word (to keep the "reading old books" thing alive), and put the shapes in the box.
