Cheap Couples Halloween Costume Help!

So I need to start thinking of my halloween costume soon because College starts soon and my boyfriend and i really want to do a couples costume. We dont want to spend a lot of money though, so we really want to think of a costume where we could buy the pieces of it ourselves and not as a set as Party City where its really expensive. Last year he was a police officer and I was a prisoner. I had the costume from a couple years ago and for him we just bought a set of police stuff (hat, badge, gun, etc) and his friend had a shirt that said NYPD.

Do you guys have any ideas for this year? I wanted to do Mr. and Mrs. Smith but he said a lot of people might not get that. He would wear black pant and a white button down with a tie and I am not sure what i would wear yet but I would try to find a black dress like she had. and then he wanted us to get yellow tinted sunglasses.

Please help us think of something! :)

I have medium brown hair and he has dark brown hair. I dont want us to have to get wigs.

Could we do Mario (he would get jean trousers and a red shirt) and Daisy the video game couple since supposedly Mario likes Peach but also kinda likes Daisy. She has brown hair. and i could get a short yellow dress? I am being Belle for halloween the other day (he wont be the Beast) and i have that costume that my friend gave me that is this yellow dress:

a few years ago my wife and i went to a party as country hilljacks. we went to Goodwill and bought some really terrible "pro america" shirts, tattered jeans, etc. i found a really ugly flannel shirt and cut off the sleeves. my wife actually put an unwound coat hanger through her hair so her pigtails would stay up. we found some buckteeth, and i carried around an empty jug of wine. overall, pretty cheap costumes.

Adam and Eve maybe? Depends on the party you are going to, but my wife and I did that once at a club (adults only, pretty much anything goes for costumes). :-)
