Many peopel are complaining because many other online gaming sites and magazines (EGM, GamePro, etc.) gave the game excellent ratings, and IGN seems to be the only one who gave Mario Kart less than a 9. Hmmm... I guess it's up to the player to decide eh? :D

gamespot just gave it a 7.9

i think it kinda grows on you...

my first impression wasn't all that great of it...but after putting more time into it, i'm starting to enjoy it more.

Well a low score from Gamespot is expected. They're very tough reviewers.

Games that score a solid 8 there usually get in the high 8/low 9 range elsewhere.

Soooooo dissappointing :(

They have taken away some of the improvements made along the way and added annoyances. E.g. the bananas are bigger then ever, but they've taken out the little reflex hop which you can do if you hit a banana to stop spinning out. Stuff like that. The music sucks, there's no hop, the graphics bland, the tracks uninspiring, powerups are still handed out based on track position: 1st = banana after banana after banana... 3rd and below is lightning galore! Not to mantion the GP mode, no redoing tracks if you mess up, gotta start the GP again :|

Mario Kart was like my religion, on the Snes, 64 and then GBA with hundreds probably thousands of hours clocked up. DD feels like it's a dirty cheap impersonation of a once great game :(

Dazzla, have you even played the game? Every site (at least 5 of them) have given the game amazing reviews. IGN is the only one who gave it a so-so review. Lets wait till we get some time playing the game before we go bashing it... mmmmkay?

Have I played the game? Nooooooooo, I just babbled random comments tired.gif

Of course I played the damn game!

The only redeeming feature is the 4 player, as always MK multi player is top notch.

No offense to dazzla, but I really dont think everyone should be judging solely on the words of one diehard ubber fan.

Remember the biggest fans are the ones disapointment hits the hardest, I'm loving this game right now, can't wait for my mates to come around for beer tommorrow :)

I'm really enjoying MKDD, yeah the banana spin recovery isn't there, but the spins are over in half the time so I'm not really bothered. :)

But that's such a crucial tactic, they can't just bin it.

I'd still call this a must buy game, purely for multiplayer, 4 player has always been good and I guess Time Trial will grow on me, it just hasn't been as instant as I'd like...

Why does everyone seem to hate the item handicap? It's one of my favorite things.

Without it they'd be nothing fun about being in first, you'd just be all alone up there. If you're any good you can deflect pretty much any attack anyway, the only thing you'd have to worry about is players boosting up behind you and overtaking you that way. Which is where powersliding comes in :)

If you don't want to spin out on a banana, avoid the freaking banana, or shoot it with a shell.

Dazzla I was pretty dam fine at mk64 and never really used to hit bananas, apart from when my mate dropped them infront of me. It was more crucial because it saved more time... I dont think it does in MKDD. It was nice to do it and impress ppl, but I'm not overly worried.

Right now some of the music is annoying me tho ;)

You guys are telling me you've never hit a banana in battle mode and got out of it by doing a little hop? No satisfaction greater then when someone thinks they've hit you but they haven't :D When you play with others who are good at Mario Kart a banana is just as lethal as everything else.
