Terrifying photos of ghosts that will keep you up at night

These are the things that go bump in the night.

From murdered slaves to tortured hospital patients to forgotten sailors, ghost stories will send a shiver down most people's spines.

But this collection of images will call into question everything you think you know about the spirit world ... and how easy it may be to cross back over from the 'other side'.

Paranormal investigators have spent decades painstakingly researching each photograph, debunking some and failing to disprove others.

This early 20th century snap of a bureau was taken at the request of a furniture dealer by Montague Cooper, a well-respected photographer of the day. It appears he was so good, even a ghost wanted to pose for him

This picture was taken in February 2002 of what used to be a local general store. It appears the building has attracted some shoppers from the other realm as well

This photograph was taken during the American Civil War. A ghost, believed to be that of a dead soldier, was captured walking up these stairs in a basement

Diane and Peter Berthelot visited Worstead Church in Norfolk in 1975. Peter snapped a photo of his wife praying silently in the pew. They didn't realise until later that she was not alone

I've been in a few mental hospitals that are abandoned, where people claim left and right that they're haunted. I've been to each location multiple times and have yet to experience anything. "I ain't afraid of no ghost"

I went to a church near here that's abandoned because it was build facing the wrong way, and police close it off at haloween due to hells angels attempting to go there and worship the devil or something.

Was it scary? No.

Do these pics look legit? No.

I just see a bunch of either long exposures, or double exposures.

2nd pic, although very lossy looks like it's had film colour grading on it as though it's a movie still.

Double exposures, every one of them, the first looks like the film wasn't on the sprockets properly so some of the last frame bled in.

I wish ghosts were real because that would be awesome, but they're not and those photos are obvious fakes, double exposures, etc.

Even as a kid, I was 50/50 about whether I thought ghosts were real but for some reason, this picture used to scare the crap out of me. I had it in some sort of "unexplained ghost photos" book.

I honestly don't know why now :D

Ghosts are real, as real as you. ;)

And why are the photos 'obvious fakes' ?
