Microsoft won't let me play my music

Recommended Posts

I tried playing a WMA file in Winamp. This WMA file was a track that I had ripped from a CD using Windows Media Player. This comes up: http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/pdrm/e.../en/welcome.asp

Welcome to Windows Media Personal License Migration Service.

Restore the content on a computer or operating system that has been upgraded, or

Use existing content on another one of your computers.

PLEASE NOTE:

If you re-install an operating system or install a completely new operating system on a computer on which you have previously maintained licenses, that computer will appear to be a new, unique computer to this service when you migrate licenses. However, upgrading the operating system will not change the identity of the computer as far as this process is concerned.

If you wish to read our policy page, click the link above. If you want to migrate licenses now, click the Migrate License button. Otherwise, click Cancel.

The URL had some information (such as the name of the song I was trying to play) tagged on the end of it too. I click on "Migrate License".
Sorry, we are unable to issue a license to you at this time. Please try later.
What's going on?

Note to self: Never rip songs using Windows Media Player.

Note to self: Never rip songs using Windows Media Player.

Note to self: Always read the "settings" portion of programs.

"Copy protect music" Hmm... I wonder what that does... :shifty:

Re-ripping time for you!

This time around try something like CDex. Its pretty decent, but I've still not found a way to stop it writing ID tags, I cant stand those stupid things :/

As for using WMA, I dont have anything to say about that.....

WMA9Pro 128kbit has been near Quicktime AAC 128kbit in double blind tests (Quicktime is currently the qualitatively best AAC encoder, at least at 128kbit). Use that if you want WMA.

"ID3 Tag Version | None" Hmm... I wonder what that does... :shifty:

HeHe. Less people read the settings portion of programs than I thought. :p

I've done that, it still downloads and writes them. No idea if thats just for ogg though, thats the only filetype I use it with.

Using version 1.50 of CDex.

edit..

Upgraded to 1.51, problem still there. Tested an MP3, and as if by magic no tags.. Looks like something is messed up with the ogg encoder.. Still, glad its the program and not me being silly :)
