routing question

Recommended Posts

I've got my home network set up here. It goes as follows:

Cable modem > My PC running ICS > 16 port switch > 3 computers

My problem is that I'd like to run a server on one of the other PCs. A semi-dedicated game server, as well as an ftp server. How would I go about setting this up? Will I need some sort of routing program? If so, how would I set that up?

You will definitely need a router like Biebs suggests. Outside communication to a internal PC will not be able to be routed properly. After that, it's fairly easy to set up. You can either do port forwarding or use a combination of DMZ/firewall.

ICS is a NAT gateway, you can use port forwarding (also known as mapping) on the correct posrt to the correct internal machine if you know all of the ports that are needed and if they are TCP or UDP.

this is in the settings part of ICS , there is already a template for FTP, you will need to make several maps to get certain games servers working though.

DOH! No experience with ICS. Saw the switch and made assumptions quickly. Learn something new every day. :)

I'm getting a new router this weekend. My old one crapped out on me. I was just hoping to be able to have some fun for the next couple of days.... without having to wait. I guess I will though.
