Livin in a box
I have decided that it's time for a new router to replace my current crappy D-Link 6780 (I think) TalkTalk supplied router. The main reason is that the WiFi reception is terrible downstairs which makes everything very temperamental. I've had a look myself but there are so many brands and so much choice that I just don't know what is the best. I currently have a 1.7MB/s down speed. I use about 3 LAN ports with my PC and PS3 and sometimes a laptop, but rarely. I'm only looking to spend about ?30 or so, I don't need one of these ?90 things; I just see them as a waste of money. I previously had a Netgear DG834G v3 which I was happy with until TalkTalk recommended me to not use it anymore... Thanks!
patseguin Global Moderator Posted August 24, 2012 Global Moderator Share Posted August 24, 2012 I have a Netgear WNDR4000 and love it. It's dual band and has a USB port for printer, USB storage, etc.

Livin in a box
I have a Netgear WNDR4000 and love it. It's dual band and has a USB port for printer, USB storage, etc. As I say...that just seems a bit too expensive for me, all I use my router for is...well, the Internet, I don't need storage of any kind and I have a WiFi printer already so that doesn't need plugging in either. 30 is pushing it..... http://www.amazon.co...N/dp/B00442HJKE less than 50 and great router. http://www.amazon.co...r/dp/B000SNEORO cheapest i can find you I can find the first one you posted for ?42 on eBuyer, a little bit over what I would like to spend but not too bad. Anyone got any other recommendations?
Livin in a box
Seeing as I can't edit my posts...I need an ADSL router too, not a cable one. I've been looking but the only ones I can find are for cable :/ or need another router for the DSL D:
Roger H. Veteran Posted August 24, 2012 Veteran Share Posted August 24, 2012 Well any router can be used with a cable modem or dsl modem so I guess the question is are you looking for a combo dsl modem/router in 1 device or just a router. You can keep your current DSL setup and just set it to bridge mode then your new router will controll your network. (as it should be IMO, a modem should just be a dumb box that just passes information to a proper router!)
nabz0r Veteran Posted August 24, 2012 Veteran Share Posted August 24, 2012 Why?? I previously had a Netgear DG834G v3 which I was happy with until TalkTalk recommended me to not use it anymore... As suggested earlier with that budget is a little hard to find something decent. Anyway, take a look at these. Linksys/Cisco E-900 and Bilkin Surf N Router. Hopefully, they're what you are looking for.
Livin in a box
Why?? One of the engineers said that it wasn't very compatible with a short line (or whatever) that I have because I live less than a mile from my exchange. Don't know if he was talking out of his arse or what, he sent me this new D-Link 2780 for free anyway. If it's not a load of extra fuss then I wouldn't mind doing that because it's not like I'm going to be able to sell this TT router I have now for anything more than a fiver, so I just need to keep looking. If I got, say, this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/D-link-DIR-655-Wireless-N-Gigabit-Router-/170899029509?pt=UK_Computing_Modem_Router_Combos&hash=item27ca603e05#ht_500wt_1414 Could I plug it into my current router and it would work fine, even though it only works on cable on its own? Skyfrog
I bought a TP-Link router last year to replace a dying Linksys. I had never heard of them and it was cheap but I figured it would be fine as a temporary replacement, but it has turned out to be a gem and I'm still using it. nabz0r Veteran Posted August 25, 2012 Veteran Share Posted August 25, 2012 That's odd. I say you start using your Netgear router again. In my opinion you just ignore what they said, if you were happy and everytihng worked fine, then start using it and don't buy another router.
