Windows 8 and Windows 7 domain conflict

Recommended Posts

Ok on another ssd I decided to dual boot Windows 8 trial with Windows 7 and join it to 2008 R2 domain. After install I had profile issues with Windows 7 and couldn't login, often finding 'infinite' logins of 20+ minutes unless I pulled or started without network connectivity, where I would always get a temporary profile.

I solved that by leaving domain, deleting local profile and rejoining. Yesterday booted inwo Windows 8 again and same thing has happened, can't get into Windows 7. If I do get in and look at EV am greeted by loads of 'local profile not found' and volume shadow copy errors, even though profile folder is there and identical, and indeed untouched by Win8 as it resides on a totally separate ssd.

So is Windows 8 causing a trust conflict? My notebook has Windows 7 and has been totally unaffected.

Thats a strange one... I have my work PC with Win 7 on a 2008 R2 Domain... and 2 laptops, one with Win8 x64RTM Ent installed on it, another laptop with Win8 x64RTM Pro .... both Win8 machines joined to the domain, running Office 2013... and no issues on my side... all shares / network drives linked up... not too sure what has gone south on your setups..

Well the only pointer is that Win8 is on identical hardware to Win7, although it has a different pc name. So not sure what else it could be but a security/trust issue. Would like to know how to fix it if that is possible though. Win8 is definitely a 'destructive' agent as booting/logging into it causes the issue whereas anything I do in Win7 doesn't affect Win8.

But none of them have both win8 and win7 on same machine though do they?

Nope... they are all separate machines.. i have not tried dual booting, as i had some spare kit laying about... is your ip dynamic or reserved in dhcp??? not that i think it would make a difference..
