shakey
Supposed to be pretty good. Got it going for our company, but don't really do anything with it. Our real Web IT guy handles all the aspects of it.
Eternal Tempest
I run the word press software on my own domain (it's open source), and really like it for a blog style web site, with it being easy to and manage. The themes and plugins are well supported. Not used the wordpress.com service, I don't like having ads on my site, so I don't use the service it self. TTGSteve
Wordpress is without a doubt the best and most-used blog software on the internet. No, it's not going anywhere soon and it is very user-friendly. I've ran plenty of self-hosted wordpress blogs. I also know people that use their hosted services and none of them have ever had a problem with it to my knowledge.

remixedcat
wordpress self hosted is better becuase you can edit the CSS for free, wordpress charges you on the .com version to edit CSS however you'll need to arrange the hosting, blogspot/blogger is free and lets you edit CSS for free as well as able to export the blog. I use it.... my link is on my sig if you want and example.
NoUserName
Actually I keep reading that blogger keep closing various blogs all of the sudden without any prior notices This is the reason for thinking about WordPress.com Regarding CSS, It is ok for me as the blog will be simple and all I need is a simple layout for sorting 3 levels of categories. Calculator
I created a top level categories and then a 2nd level categories and finally 3rd level categories. All I need is a way to display the categorizes in the left side of the blog so any user can see it all or make a drop down menu ...etc Simply go to your dashboard, choose Appearance > Widgets. Drag the Categories widget from Available Widgets to one of the sidebars on the right to activate it. Tweak its settings to your liking, you probably want to check "Show hierarchy" to display your sub (sub) categories. Hit Save and you're done, you should see your categories on your blog now. You can always come back to this panel to add, change or remove widgets.

SinghKing
I currently using WordPress on a number of website, brilliant piece of kit. Our website isnt hosted by WordPress themselves, however, alot of hosts have cPanel and Softaculous which installs Wordpress for you. All the files are installed in a directory so you can edit the css, javascript, etc files
