[SPOILER] 28 Days Later

Recommended Posts

I finally rented this movie and I must say it is quite good. I hope some of you can straighten me out on a few things. After the infection was going around the UK was the UK isolated from the rest of the world so that the virus would be contained on the island? So no other countries were infected, which means the people were wrong in the beginning? Also was that a British jet in the end or a jet from another country?

@davemania24: See I tend to disagree with that. If you listen to the pilot carefully at the end he almost sounds Russian, but I could be wrong. Perhaps I should watch the video again and see what type of plane that was. I am trying to recall it in my head, but I think that was a Mig. I will watch it again. Because over and over again that military general was saying there was no longer no military and I think the main lady said it also. That means there could be no air force.

@Nutop: I think the UK was entirely wiped out except for a few survivors. I don't think the virus was spread across the world because the infection takes like 20 seconds before they go into a rage. That would mean someone infected would have to have been on a plane or a ship, but the time it takes to get to NY or some other country, the crew of that plane or ship would have been already dead and never reached its destination.

Also would someone like to explain to me how they made those cities in England completely empty?! I rented the VHS and not the DVD because Blockbuster did not have fullscreen, so I did not have any extras. I was just curious how all of the cities/highways were completely empty during the filming. Can someone fill me in on that?

The reason why I thought it was a UK jet was that it looked like a trainer jet or maybe combat jet used by the British airforce and I vaguely remember seeing a marking on those jets. But than i could be wrong :p

I think the movie studio just paid the cities to borrow the location for a day or so. They did it with the matrix in Sydney and Vanilla Sky in New York. Its a good way for cities to make money.

Yea that is nuts though, emptying out those major portions of the city. I am sure some day someone will find a mess up in the movie where a person could be seen moving in the background or whatever.

It was a pretty good movie though. I say this movie is a cross between Silent Hill, where the cities are deserted except for the creepy people and Resident Evil with the whole T-Virus thing and "zombie-like" people.

it was directecd by danny boyle (trainspotting, the beach, shallow grave etc.) with a small budget which does his best movies with, the country is quarentined that is what the army bloke is on about just before the character jim escapes the army blokes in the woods also if people get infected in a matter of seconds how would they get to another country

they did it just like they did in Vanilla Sky. They just stopped people entering where they were filming and then the rest was all super imposed. it wasnt all "real" as such.

i think they told the people the rest of the world was infected so they wouldnt try to leave england and infect the rest of the world. if the survivors knew they were being quarantined, they wouldnt be nearly as peaceful and would put everyone else at risk if they managed to leave england somehow

I loved that movie, it was a great mix of Resident evil/war of the worlds type Isolation and desolation.

Even used music very similar to that of Jeff waynes War of the Worlds.

it mixed and matched several good types of movies to create a low budget but high impact movie.

Where is it out on video??

I havent heard any news of where or even when it will be out for hire here in Aus.

Cant wait but :)

Yes,I think the mainland UK was quarrantined to stop the spread of the virus. The Jet plane was a British Jet.

FRom what i remember, said in the movie that NY and some other major citys around the world were infected.

Heres a screenie of the jet.

The jet was french and there was no way they cud actually stop ppl from walkin in the way when filming. Legally all they could do was ASK that people didnt get in the way. A lot of the big shots had been edited so it looked like was empty.

yeah selena (spelling?) said that last radio broadcasts before they fell silent said that there were reports of infection in new york and paris, but i think that was just panic because if it took 10-20 seconds to be infected those planes would have never made it to the states, and by then we would have shot it down. my two cents on if reports were a truth or a panic... but yeah it was said...

Bought this on DVD a few months ago.

SPOILER BELOW SO DON'T READ ON IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED

I think the story goes that it was only the UK was infected. Remeber the Scottish guy who is adamant its a cover up about other countries getting infected? He says to Jim that its a cover up, and that the rest of the world is fine. So when Jim has escaped the two soliders who were supposed to execute him and he collapses in the forest and looks up at the sky and sees the passenger jet way up in the sky, he realises the Scottish guy was right, and that he needs to try and get help.

I believe the fighter jet at the end is a British trainer, and i'd like to believe that the pilot is reporting that they found uninfected to airlift out? Hopefully a happy ending! :)

Great film tho :D
