Nova_rock
192 is good, its about the best quality ratio, and about as high as you need to go for good sound unless you have nice gear.
123_kid
LAME -alt preset standard: ~200kbs Why settle with CBR 192 when -aps is meant to be transparent at a bitrate that is only slightly higher?
DsnBehind
OGG 128/160/192 is pwnage! :shifty:

mstx
depends on what/where you use it for, 128k mp3 is fine for me but if you have very good speakers you want 192+
username
i would go --alt preset standard, can go from 128 to 256 if your music needs it usually averages around 200 though this is for transparency, if thats what you want
morganpugh84
I have an iRiver iMP-400 CD/MP3 Player and I find anything between 128-192kbps is perfect. Unless you have an AMAZING sound system you aint gonna really notice the difference. I find Ogg at 128kbps is roughly about as good as 192kbps MP3. Buzz99
128 works fine, good quality, small footprint.
poind
Totally depends on your intended use. 192 / 256 / 320 if it's for use on your computer and you have the space and a sound system that will make the differences apparent. 128 / 160 if you're putting things on a portable and want to cram stuff on. 192 is my own personal default, though I'll vary it based on how I plan to use something. insanekiwi
eh. the human ear won't notice any (big) difference if it's encoded above 192kbps. so i guess 192 is just fine.
