killswitch92
im really interested in becoming a web developer and i was wondering what its actually like? is it a fun/easy career? whats the pay like? is it easy to land a job? share any stories you have about your job or project youve worked on, interesting, funny, or weird. so far i've learning xhtml (moved onto html5) css3, and currently learning javascript, then hopefully moving onto something like php. just wondering if its something worth working to achieve or of i should turn back now and become like an accountant... or a clam digger lol
Kami-
It all depends on what sector you get involved in; there's a huge difference on working on a companies internal web applications to writing web applications for a customer. The latter will usually require you to stay up to date on the latest tech and provide many different challenges as everyone wants something new and exciting. Where-as the former tends to be better paid (salary vs by hour) although much less interesting :p. Again, no one can really tell you if it's going to be fun, it can be challenging though - it just depends on your local job market at the time you are looking for work, which sector you opt to work in. However the world turns more towards tablets and other touch screen devices for end consumers, more and more web applications are being created to replace the old fashioned desktop applications this in turn has caused an increase in employability for web developers over the last few years although in my current market area this is now starting to plateau. At the end of the day; you should always try to make a career in something you find fun; not what pays the most (although I'll agree, you have to earn enough to support your lifestyle). Also; PHP in the workplace is slowly dying off, being replaced by 'Rails' or '.Net' (etc; yes I'm aware there are a lot more things happening) - so I'd look more into those than to PHP.
