+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted October 27, 2003 Subscriber² Share Posted October 27, 2003 Not 10 but: Alien is the most tense film I can think of. Not sure if that equates to scary, but it's pretty near. Blair witch in a cold room, alone with the lights out, spooky. Event Horizon scarred me silly. Not because of the film, but because everyone told me it would!

Akuma-San
Im a sucker for 'psychological' horror genre, most of the gore films are just hilarious  - Event Horizon (was pretty damn scary... well except the ending :)) - Ring (Japanese version, havent seen the american remake) - The Thing - Bunker - Below (both Bunker and Below utilized a bit of a similar style as even horizon) - Alien - The Shining - The Omen - Halloween - A Nightmare On Elm Street
Toxicfume Veteran Posted October 27, 2003 Veteran Share Posted October 27, 2003 Not a very good list IMO. The Blair witch project should have definitely been there! On a side note you guys should really watch jap horrors and surely everyone HAS to watch A Tale of Two Sisters.

Icarus ^i^
Personally, I'd vote for Exorcist and Shining :) My chinese gf and her brother has really gotten me addicted to asian horror flicks as well... they're much better than most of the stuff that comes out of Hollywood. threetonesun
How about Poltergeist? Poltergeist should be on there. That movie is pretty damn eerie ... possibly scarier than Halloween, but: And for anyone saying Aliens/the Things/ etc, they aren't horror movies as such. Aliens is like, space horror, and the Thing ... well, it basically is too, just not in space ;) I think this list was trying to do the top ten strict horror genre films, not involving things from space or giant sharks. Hence why Poltergeist probably wasn't considered either, although Night of the Living Dead was.

Tartan
My Top Ten - the official one is lame. Both 'Ring' and 'Blair with' are pathetic IMHO. Mainly I found these other films scary as a kid, since unfortunatley no movies scare me anymore. :/ 1. The Telephone (short spanish movie about a guy trapped in a phone box - disturbing) 2. Jaws (yes i know lame) 3. The Thing 4. Alien 5. Poltergeist 6. The Demons (foreign film) 7. Couple of Hammer Horror films 8. The Amityville Horror 9. Janet Reno - http://www.janetrenoishot.com/ 10. * Myself on a Sunday morning - arrrgghhhh!!!
cocklea
Jaws is classic, but not scary enough for me.
destrux
Definitely topping my list of what I've seen so far would be Ringu/The Ring
mokes
The scariest films would have to be: The Ring, Ringu, Ring 2 (You see more of Sadako..) And if you say otherwise, you're full of crap. The Thing was fairly creepy, but there were some conflicting factors in it that made it unrealistic. There are a few Japanese Zombie/Gore fest films that are kinda' scary too, but all in all they're more comedical - as with the majority of American horror films. Just look at some of the Omen films.. I've watched those since I was seven, and still crack up to this day about some of those scenes.
Samoa
Honestly, many movies hold some level of suspense for me, but after seeing it just once, it no longer has that. So I can't agree with those movies being scary at all. Alien has more "scare" in it than most of those on that list, if not all of them. DsnBehind, THat is one ugly sig and avatar. (no offense) Please change it, I will have a bit more respect for you....
