What makes a news topic "Hot!"?

Recommended Posts

So, in the image below, you can see that the article about the rather large phone bill is tagged as "Hot", with 27 comments while to article below has 70 comments and is not "Hot".

What, or who dictates whether a topic is "Hot" or "Not"?

Heated debate makes it hot.

OK, so far there hasn't been an answer to this question, so here is another example of "hot topic":

How come the older with less post topic is hot and the newer with a lot more posts isn't?

Views is my guess. I'm sure if you search "Stolen iPhone" is Google it'll come up with that topic, maybe?

Once a news article reaches a certain number of unique views (somewhere in the 6K range) it's "hot."

Keyword is unique. Going back into the article multiple times to argue with other members doesn't make it hot. :p

Unless I've been onto a Topic, it doesn't register as "Hot!".

It's determined by the amount of unique pageviews; once it reaches a certain threshold it becomes "hot".

On the other hand, when an article receives 60+ comments the background of the comment counter turns red. But the amount of comments does not affect the article going hot.

Thread moved to Site & Forum Issues

It's been answered, so there's no point in me saying anything :p and I don't see a reason to close it.

I don't see a reason to close it.

It's been answered,

Is that not as good a reason as any to close it?
