Fox News angers McDonald's customer

Recommended Posts

Fox News and McDonald's are both magnets for controversy. Both of them have featured prominently in several documentaries, and they both get blood boiling across the country. So put them together, and you're bound to incite arguments.

Proof of that hypothesis came this weekend when self-proclaimed liberal Craig Lechner took his kids to a McDonald's outpost in his home town of Fair Lawn, in northern New Jersey. Fair Lawn-Saddle Brook Patch reports that, after ordering his food, Lechner discovered Fox News was playing on the TV inside the restaurant. Lechner, remembering that the channel had recently showcased a violent suicide, and not wanting to expose his young children to violence, asked the owner of the McDonald's, Sebastian Lentini, to change the channel.

But Lentini refused. He said he was enjoying watching Fox News. So Lechner got angry. He started video-taping his interaction with Lentini. In the resulting video, Lechner again asks Lentini to turn off the TV, noting that the program was discussing war. Then, when Lentini refuses yet again, Lechner says, "I can't wait to put this on The Huffington Post!"

Apparently Lechner complained about the interaction up the chain of command at McDonald's, and was told that TV programming is up to the prerogative of individual franchise owners. They're allowed to play whatever they want -- including (theoretically) pornography!

I see this around here. McDee's doesn't want to put on Fox News, but most customers ask for it.

Well like the article said, its not McDonalds that wants it one way or the other. Its the owner for the store. Some owners give the customers what they want and some don't. Neither is right or wrong. If you don't like the McDonalds store owner where you are, go to the one down the block. Maybe they will let you watch whatever it is your complaining about.

^ Around here it is left up to the store manager at the time.

I have had to complain to the franchise owner's office, about their refusal to change channels.

It was quite a battle, retraining those managers. :shifty:

Why does this come off as a democrat trying to start a hissy fit because he thinks the owner is a republican? the whole he remembered fox news played a suicide thing is just a BS argument, you could easily get way worse on other channels... and the whole wait till this is on the huffington post comment.....

It wasnt even an intention airing of the suicide thing. That was just the mistake of whoever was suppose to filter the live stream. **** happens.

]It's not burger king. You can't have it your way. Burger King would sue McDonalds for patent infringement.

Not in America, some people here will make a big deal out of anything. Though what I do find funny is Janet Jackson's nipple slip caused way more uproar than this

Because you know nipples are demonic things that need to be hidden away. God forbid a kid sees them, his life will be ruined.

Two things:

1) A 'liberal' should adhere more to stereotypes and eat healthier food. The whole point is that conservatives are all going to kill themselves off with their IMA EAT WUT I WANT DALGURNIT (ironically, it's the 'healthy' liberals that want universal healthcare that would largely benefit the grotesquely obese conservatives who freak out at the thought). So yeah. Stop going to McD's. It's for truckers, trailer trash, and Japan.

2) If a busty blonde soccer mom threw the exact same tantrum upon seeing Rachel Maddow on a restaurant TV, this would be presented as a cutesy folksy well-I'll-be-a-sonovagun moment where everyone chuckles, shakes their head, and smiles at each other.

Also, of course, that restaurant will be accused of forcing customers to watch liberal propaganda.

I agree Fox News has ****ed me off on numerous occasions, the suicide wasn't one of them. He was more than likely trying to make a political statement, which failed horribly.
