CCTV and DDNS

Recommended Posts

Dear Friends,

I don't know if it's the right place to post this question, but i'll try anyway.

I have to connect a CCTV through internet, and the problem is that we cant have access to a static IP, so i have to deal with dynamic IP.

Doing some research, i found the solution is by using Dynamic DNS (ddns).

Can anyone provide few information about DDNS, what we need to do? get a hosting plan, free/paid domain??

any solid examples on how to do so?

thank you in advance,

n o - i p . c o m (neowin thinks I am spamming 0,0)is one option and so is DynDNS but i'm not sure is DynDNS is free (it was a while ago). Once you've signed up, there should be an option in your router where you can set it up with your registered account info and server details. The router will then regularly update your WAN IP address to the server. Alternatively if you have a machine that is constantly on, you can download DynUpdater which will do the same thing: http://dyn.com/support/clients/

Set up a DynDns account, you will need a credit card but cancel after two weeks and the account becomes a free one. Either download their updater software or set up your account in the DDNS part of your router. Port forward to the two ports on your DVR, these will be shown in the network part of your DVR and thats it, you are done.

You will then be able to use the address you set up in the DynDns to access your dvr over the internet e.g. www.eliokh.dyndns.com

there are plenty of FREE dynamic dns - dyndns.org use to be great any could have like 5 free host names. Now free is 1 I think, noip when using free makes you answer an email every 30 days if your host is not changing IPs to keep it active. Just your client staying on the same IP does not work for their 30 day timeframe.

Just google for dynamic dns. There are plenty of ways to keep this updated if your router does not support it directly - depending on which one you use you can run a client on a box behind your router. Setup your own script to hit a web url, etc. etc..
