vcloud development network within a production environment

Recommended Posts

hey guys,

on a very broad and basic level..... need some advice on this:

we have a production environment at work and want to implement vcloud to give the developers a test bed that they can work with and no f up our network

how do we take care of this from a network perspective?

a Terminal server on the edge of the vcloud??? so that the devs have access??

i took the vcloud course a while back and i just remember its info overload... so i'm curious as to what experience you guys have had with this?

and i'm talking basic level

sorry if its sounding too basic i'm still trying to get my head around all of this

Keep the developer machines on an isolated vCloud network. Have a bridged vCloud network where your jump host lives that is also dual homed on the isolated vCloud network. If the bridged vCloud network doesn't have any spare IP addresses, I think your developers won't be able to attach any other machines to it.

So do you already have a VM environment setup? Be vsphere or hyper-V or something else and are just moving to or upgrading to vcloud.

How you isolate your VM network to your real physical network would be up to you. Sure it could be behind a NAT and or Firewall that only allows specific traffic or ips in and out.

Curious what you have in place now - how much experience do you have with VMs, from your question I take it you have little to no experience with VM setup?
