How To Reset Network Internet Settings?

Recommended Posts

Hello

Heres what happened, I thought I was blocked from a site by IP blocking, so I loaded up "Hide IP", and it turns out I wasnt blocked, the website i was trying to view was down...

So, the rest of the net was slugging up and going ######, I uninstalled the "Hide IP", but the thing seems to have screwed up, still shows that theres a proxy somewhere, I checked one of those "whats my IP" pages,

I cant reset it(dont know the procedure)

Its a Dell, hard wired to the router

Before I throw the W7 install disc at it is there any way to fix ???

Its only this PC, the other one in my house is fine.

erm, no rush, I'm off shopping with my mam...

:)

Thanks sc302,

I tried that, but no luck,

Heres what I get on "whatsmyip.com"

Your IP Address Is: 8*.**.***.**

Other IPs Detected: 212.144.254.122

Possible Proxy Detected: 1.1 login.fdxtended.com (squid/3.0.STABLE20)

I also tried a command prompt method, no difference, I've started doing a backup this morning.. gulp..

Reset TCP/IP Networking stack in windows vista and windows 7: http://www.lamnk.com...ws-7-and-vista/

Edit: Just saw what you just posted...and uh-oh! Only thing I could think of would be to uninstall the network adapter after running what was in the link I posted. But that's just my two cents, never experienced that problem before. And I won't ever install that particular piece of software either.

Thanks obi, :) erm thats the cmd prompt that I tried aswell, also I tried uninstalling the adapter, and used the Dell exe to reinstall, but it still shows the "possible proxy detected" on whatsmyip.com

Yes, I agree regarding the piece of "sssh oftware", I wont make that mistake again....

reminds me of what zonealarm did to my brand new windows 98 computer back when it was still new.....have you tried any winsock repair utilities yet? There are several out there...and that could very well be the case too...I just don't see much point in reinstalling windows because of something like this...have you tried hijack this yet? It's pretty good too....just be careful using it, though. I'll look around and see what I can come up with. ;) If anyone wants to help this man with not having to reinstall windows because of something like this, then by all means, chime in at will....although, judging by the sound of it, it could also be a rootkit as well....I just looked the site up, and it seems sketchy, at best. At the very least, I'd download a livecd of kaspersky/dr web, just to be sure. And, make sure you're wired, not wireless...judging from the site, looks like a malware-type site. Not saying it is, but it sure looks like it....let the scan complete, then go from there. Sure beats having to reinstall windows and losing stuff, I know that for a fact!

You could also try to uninstall the dell software, which would of course, leave you (possibly) without a network connection upon boot up....then try to re-install the dell software and re-connect....sounds like you just have a small registry error to me...did you try system restore? I know I am throwing straws into a fire, but it's got to be better than just starting over from scratch....it's a software problem, either with windows, or the Dell software. Definiitely not hardware related (unless it's a freak of nature type of problem)

Not trying to over-complicate things, but it could be any one of those or another problem I haven't touched yet....and I don't know the system you're working with, so those details could help too....(eg....what kind of Dell are you using? What are the specs....mobo, processor, maybe a system make/model?)

I have looked again at the command prompt line,

netsh int ip reset C:\netsh.log.txt

netsh winsock reset

I didnt use the part in bold the first time, and ran it again with the bold part added, restarted, and checked "whatsmyip.com" it only shows my real ip address, nothing about possible proxy anymore.

But, when I check with the pos software "Autohide IP" homepage, it still shows my IP as the proxy number listed in the earlier post...

so something is still not right

Its a Dell optiplex 755 micro form, I downloaded the dell drivers/adapter exe from dells own site on the good pc and burned them, and ran them from the burned disc to reinstall the adapter,

I also have Trojan Remover set to run a start scan for rootkits, and it seems ok...

I dont mind a reinstall, thats the easy bit, its the backing up files and emails and stuff thats the real pain, :(

Theres something not right with the system restore, as it only shows the date when I installed the pos software, nothing prior is there...

No sweat though, I'm nearly finished the backup :)

Did you try resetting the router ?

EDIT - Notice your other PCs are ok, still worth a shot

Also a malware scan wouldn't go a miss, malwarebytes would be my first option

Was going to suggest a system restore. If you had any checkpoint before installing the software, it would've completely restored your PC to its pre-installation state. Enable system restore on your fresh install if you've disabled it and run questionable software in a sandbox to avoid problems like this
