Hope this alleviates confusion.

1. Click the link. It's a KB article.

2. On the KB article page, choose the download link for your OS.

3. Try to download it.

It's a known glitch that's being addressed. For now, need to open the URL in IE so it can use the non-exe validation tool.

For example, from your page linked above, the x86 Windows 7 version links me to this in Firefox:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/exe-validation.aspx?id=34914
Change it to this and open in IE (swap exe for genuine if the forum truncates it..):
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/genuine-validation.aspx?id=34914
And it let me download it.

Worked for me. it took me to the download page and I clicked download and it started to download.

So what is the actual problem?

Looks like they 'forgot' about this.

Got that exact same error, must be a temporary glitch

so in firefox 16.01 on windows 7 x64 ultimate -- downloading just fine

You must have used a URL trick. GenuineCheck.exe has been broken for about 6 months. Maybe longer. My memory betrays me.

no I did not do any url tricks -- I clicked the url off the page you linked too.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=c5f25ba8-fcaa-4436-b5ab-8725b00e74bc

But seems that embedded url on the top - I did not catch that before did not require validation. When I went down the page and found the normal validation one it does fail.

Who cares! It's out of date crap anyway.

XP is dead. It's time to move on.

So you hate fan of apple and xp users... yet you call everyone else a sheep?
