TheLegendOfMart
you can buy halfsized dvd-r's here (1.47 GB 3" dvd discs)Click Here The cube also reads them backwards, which means even if you have the mini-DVDs, you have to burn them from the outside in. wow LOL man thats weird. that's how the DC did it... er no it didnt, they both read outside in, its just a stupid rumour that caught on

threetonesun
er no it didnt, they both read outside in, its just a stupid rumour that caught on You mean inside out? And I can't imagine the DC read them backwards, since it could read just about any CD-R you stuck in it.
BroChaos Veteran Posted October 29, 2003 Veteran Share Posted October 29, 2003 apparently i'm wrong about that, but i swear that's what people said. i remember burning a dummy file first, so the game would be on the outside, which would make it load faster cuz the drive wouldn't have to search so far in for the start. also, i remember something about the bootloader being burned last so it was on the outside. but this was a few years ago, so correct me if i'm wrong. Yeah, all the DC files had a dummy (usually audio) track at the beginning, but I thought the CD came in normal order after that. Since I converted all mine to Nero, I thought they showed up as audio -> bootloader -> file, or ust audio -> file.
fishie
i love how people think it reads "backwards" "inside out", etc. clearly if you take the top off you can see what happens. it reads just like any other disc but it starts at the middle to check the barcode thats stamped on the disc. and checks it again later in the boot. XavierHyde
no you cannot hack it. Jargon file entry on 'hack' PLEASE learn the jargon before you go and abuse it... Of course you can hack on a GameCube, or else there wouldn't be ANY software/games/demos/whatever for it whatsoever. Most likely the unit wouldn't exist unless it was good for something... To clarify: If it weren't for the hackers at Nintendo, we wouldn't have the GameCube.
