Chsoriano
I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that Microsoft paid those people to appear in lines. Wow, what an ignorant comment. There were at least a couple hundred people in the line at the Microsoft Store in Houston. Everyone there was really excited also, and I don't think it was just because of the free donuts, water, candy, and hot chocolate. Except they're not called fanatics and they're not crazy. They're just normal people who happened be excited enough for a product to line up for it. You make it seem like it's a rare occurrence for people to do such a thing when it happens quite often (for product launches). It's not like they're going to suffer from serious health issues from waiting in line. As for the cheering, I think that was a little unnecessary. I'd only do it if someone won something. Haha, yeah the cheering is unnecessary. They did that at the store I was at too but I'm not one to cheer for nothing either.
mrdeezus
While I am very happy to see the Surface doing well, I find these kinds of stories embarrassing and silly.

Ballmer just finished the WP8 announcement and mentioned that Windows 8 is selling more than Windows 7 did and that the Surface was exceeding expectations. HawkMan
Maybe they cheered because one sales means they're one spot closer to buying and getting out of there with their great new surface?

Well Ballmer said that Zune was selling well.. and we know how that ended up.. until we actually see numbers and 3rd party numbers it's premature to claim it's selling well.. I don't know anyone who wants one and that says a lot.

Don't worry, surface could sell 100 million before Xmas and Boz would tell you we have to wait and that Android is way more awesome and probably sells more. Well Ballmer said that Zune was selling well.. and we know how that ended up.. until we actually see numbers and 3rd party numbers it's premature to claim it's selling well.. I don't know anyone who wants one and that says a lot. Umm Zune was selling well, it took the second place and had a significant marketshare in a market owned by iPods. The market today in this is very different and not quote as dominated. Though android isn't doing terribly well in comparison to iPad. Actually, that doesn't say anything at all. The Surface is another product in the Windows 8 linup, the surface could fail but now there are 50 other tablets and HUNDREDS of other form factors running windows 8. Did you also miss the part where Microsoft said you won't be able to watch tv or read a magazine without hearing about the Surface, Windows 8 and Windows phone? Certainly doesn't sound like they're pussyfooting around so i'm not sure what point you're trying to make.
LaP
My guess is that they were making fun of Apple fanboys. i would have done the same. I doubt. MS fans are as worst as Apple fans. BTW Eaton ?
