-=SD=-
I am trying to get back to some music, it's always good to listen to someone good who isn't exactly "mtv made" so anyone got some good artists that aren't in the mainstream yet? Anything hip hop/rap is good, no need to ask for my tastes (The last cd I bought though is Obie Trice, not bad at all...) TIA

DirtyLarry Veteran Posted October 29, 2003 Veteran Share Posted October 29, 2003 my personal opinion, being almost 30 years old (AAARGH) is get to know not only some of the "new" groups mentioned above (i use the term "new" lightly because indeed many have been around and paid dues for a long time) but also some of the "pioneers" and contributers of modern hip hop to what it is today... with that being said... "OLD SCHOOL" (not the original pioneers, more like 1986-88 and on) boogie down productions (krs-one) biz markie big daddy kane epmd eric b and rakim masta ace poor righteous teachers (im from jersey i had to add them) and the list could go on and on those are just a few... "NEW SCHOOL" (circa 1990 and above) a tribe called quest (1st three albums classic) the artifacts black moon (enta da stage) black sheep (a wolf in sheeps clothing) del (back then also add the "funky homosapien" to del) (i wish my brother george was here, no cause for alarm (i think)) de la soul heltah skeltah leaders of the new school (featuring busta rhymes before he was solo with a group) (a future without a past, t.i.m.e.) nas organized konfusion - pharoe monch and prince po (the extinction agenda) the pharcyde souls of mischief (93 till infinity) smiff n wessun (now the cocoa b's) (the shining) and again the list could go on and on those are just a few... those are just some of the older artists i think you may want to look into. a good amount of them are strill around but i do strongly suggest hearing their earlier material first. i have missed many artists and i also tried to suggest people i thought you could maybe find in record stores, because there are 100's of underground artists from that era i coudl have named but figured id make your buying easy...
